STAR WARS (R): Force and Destiny (TM) Beta Update #9

News From the Developers of the Force and Destiny Beta

Hello Force and Destiny beta testers,

After a week of review and reflection, we’ve developed our latest errata (pdf, 326 KB), which include some additional changes for Force powers based on your feedback and internal testing.

First, we’ve revised Protect / Unleash once again. Our first change gave the power a bit too much of a boost, and we’ve revised it so that the base damage is rather low. However, we’ve made the power’s Strength upgrades a lot easier to access. One or two extra Force points can now boost the damage dealt or reduced by quite a good deal. We also changed the Strength upgrade so that it adds directly to the damage dealt or damage protected, instead of adding Success or Advantage. This was to alleviate a side effect of the Force power where Strength upgrades became a surefire way to guarantee hits, instead of just boosting the power.

Heal / Harm got a subtle but important change. We moved the Control upgrade that increased the damage dealt or healed. Now it’s a bit further down the tree, and costs more XP to reach.

Bind also received a slight change. Playtesting revealed that the power continues to be a very effective ability that can completely lock down an opponent. The change we implemented stops characters with a Force Rating of less than six from locking down one group of targets, then turning around and using the power to lock down a completely different group of targets.

With these changes, we’re planning on moving on to starships and vehicles for next week. We’re also nearing the end of the beta testing process, so if your playtesting turns up any major issues, please let us know!

As always, thanks for your participation, and we look forward to your continued feedback.
