Fight With Your Bear Hands
A Warhammer: Invasion Card of the Week
Welcome back to the Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game “card of the week” series. The FFG offices were closed last week for the Thanksgiving holiday, but the savage war between the forces of Order and Destruction never takes a vacation, so we have some catching up to do.
No, that isn’t a spelling error in our article’s title. This week’s article shows how you can add a ferocious bear to your hand, and it features an exciting preview of a card coming your way later this month in the new battle pack, Path of the Zealot! We’ve already mentioned that The Corruption Cycle focuses on the foul influence of Destruction, expanding their ranks with the addition of the vile Skaven... but that doesn’t mean Order is left out in the cold. In fact, you’ll find that they have a few units uniquely positioned to serve as “anti-Skaven.”
The Skaven have a tendency to corrupt themselves in order to increase their usefulness (although we have so far only seen this in Clan Rats, future Skaven units will follow a similar trend). That being said, any opposing unit that can capitalize on that corruption would be a welcome addition to an Order deck. Marius the Righteous, for example, made his debut in last month’s battle pack, The Skavenblight Threat. If your opponent corrupts his Clan Rats to add power to another card, Marius can quickly dispatch the vermin, provided they’re in their owner’s battlefield zone.
Gustav the Bear is an Empire hero who fearlessly seeks out corruption and shows no mercy to his foes. Like Marius, this ravenous beast profits from the corruption of his enemies, but his special ability isn’t limited to one zone. Gustav will be helpful in any zone, since he’ll make your opponents think twice about using Skaven, particularly if they’ve also got a card like Warpstone Excavation in play.
Join us next week for another Warhammer: Invasion card of the week!
