Announcing the Silk Hero Pack for Marvel Champions: The Card Game

“Something about this story doesn’t add up.” – Cindy Moon

After being bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter Parker and gaining similar spider powers, Cindy Moon spent years of her life isolated in a bunker to protect Earth from the ravenous spider-hunters known as the Inheritors. Finally freed from that bunker, Cindy now fights crime on the streets of New York as both an investigative journalist and the web-slinging superhero, Silk.

Fantasy Flight Games is thrilled to announce the Silk Hero Pack for Marvel Champions: The Card Game!

This latest addition to the game’s Web-Warrior roster swings into battle with this expansion pack, which introduces Silk as a new playable hero alongside her fifteen signature cards. Packing a pre-built Protection deck to keep her friends out of harm’s way, you’ll be able to use Silk’s enhanced senses and quick reflexes to control the encounter deck from the moment you open the box. This pack also features a bonus modular encounter set starring Atlas of the Thunderbolts!

Silk Sense

Boasting similar powers to everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Silk nevertheless takes a very different approach to combat compared to the wall-crawler from the core set.

Central to Silk ’s (Silk, 1A) whole game plan is her Silk Sense, which allows her to “tuck” encounter cards under her identity whenever she defeats or resolves them. Tucked cards are placed faceup, similar to an attachment; however, unlike attachments, tucked cards are not considered in play. This represents Silk learning her opponents’ tendencies and “tells” over the course of a scenario, making her a far more effective combatant over time. For example, when Silk attacks an enemy, her Spider Claws (Silk, 11) boost her attack power for each card tucked under her that matches that enemy’s encounter set (designated in the bottom-left corner of the card). Likewise, her Spider Reflexes (Silk, 12) can boost her already impressive DEF stat for each tucked card that matches the encounter set of an enemy attacking her. In either case, the more you “study” a particular encounter set, the better Silk will be at countering the threats from that set.

All this culminates in Silk’s Eidetic Memory (Silk, 8), which allows her to swap a particularly nasty encounter card with something more manageable from among her tucked cards. Remember, since Silk can tuck away any minions she defeats, you could use this ability to swap the villain’s worst treachery card with a tamer minion, then defeat that minion on your next turn and have both cards tucked under your identity!

There’s no limit to the number of times Silk can trigger her Silk Sense, though there is a hard limit of 4 cards tucked under her at any given time. This means you don’t need to worry about occasionally discarding a tucked card for an extra benefit, such as powering up a Swinging Silk Kick (Silk, 3) or removing extra threat with a Wallcrawl (Silk, 4). She’s no slouch in alter-ego form either, where her skills as a journalist come into play. As Cindy Moon (Silk, 1B), she can spend a tucked card to draw two extra cards, potentially giving her some more tools to work with. Her boss, J. Jonah Jameson (Silk, 7), can help her Get the Scoop (Silk, 5) before she puts her Silk suit back on, and he can also help clear some threat off a side scheme even after she switches to hero form. With plenty of ways to tuck encounter cards under her—and plenty of uses for those tucked cards—it’s clear that Silk should not be underestimated!

Naturally, Silk’s inherent skills only make up one part of her kit, and she comes with a pre-built Protection deck to keep herself (and her allies) healthy and hardy. Take advantage of Silk’s naturally high DEF with “Stop Hitting Yourself” (Silk, 16), which combos excellently with Spider Reflexes for a potent counterattack. Call on Scarlet Spider (Silk, 13) to pull damage away from Silk or your other Web-Warriors, or you can equip an Energy Shield (Silk, 18) to one of them to reduce incoming damage—even consequential damage! While in alter-ego form, you can call on the aid of Dr. Sinclair (Silk, 17) for some therapeutic healing, and when you’re Ready for a Fight (Silk, 19), you can quick-change to hero form to interrupt an enemy scheme. Madame Web (Silk, 21) lets you stack the encounter deck, making it easier for Silk to grab cards from the encounter sets she wants with Silk Sense. Finally, Cindy can always team up with Peter Parker for some stellar Investigative Journalism (Silk, 24), potentially stopping up to two schemes in one go!

Growing Strong

As we mentioned earlier, the Silk Hero Pack also comes with a modular encounter set featuring Atlas of the Thunderbolts!

If there’s one word to describe Atlas (Silk, 35), it’s “big.” Not only is he an Elite minion with a colossal 18 hit points, he gets even more hit points the larger you allow him to grow. Let him get too big, and he’ll eventually Grow Invulnerable (Silk, 36) altogether, costing you the game. While Atlas is Growing Strong (Silk, 37), you’ll have to grow even stronger if you want any chance at taking this titan down!

As an Elite, Thunderbolt minion, Atlas’s encounter set can be used as part of the Thunderbolts scenario in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Naturally, since it is still a modular encounter set in its own right, you can always choose to add it to any other scenario for some added challenge as well.

Get the Scoop

With her ability to learn and counter the threats of different encounter sets to maximum effect, Silk is a terrific hero and a fantastic addition to any team. Look forward to taking on the agents of A.I.M. with Silk when the Silk Hero Pack arrives in April!
