Lost Temple of Yig

A Scenario Preview for Path of the Serpent

#MansionsofMadness

Night had now approached, yet the tangible things I had seen made curiosity stronger than fear, so that I did not flee from the long moon-cast shadows that had daunted me when first I saw the nameless city.

Each of these scenarios will bring you face-to-face with new monsters and mythos events and force you to confront the reality of things that go against everything you thought you knew. But before you set out to discover new truths of the Earth, you must take steps to prepare for the dangerous journey ahead.

Today, we're pleased to offer you a preview of the Lost Temple of Yig scenario from the Path of the Serpent expansion for Mansions of Madness—now available for pre-order at your local retailer or online through our website with free shipping within the continental United States!

The Discovery of a Lifetime

After months of searching and following lead after lead, you have managed to prove the existence of a secret league of eerie serpent-human hybrids and traced their activities to an ancient temple hidden deep beneath the shadows of the jungle. If the information you have already found is to be believed, they are endeavoring to use the forgotten site to contact their god, Yig, and reforge bonds long-since broken. The effects of such a ritual would be devastating for humanity. You must stop them before the rite can be completed.

But if you wish to stop them, you must first find the ritual site within the twisting labyrinth of the temple. Many floors and walls of the ancient structure are nothing but crumbling stone. You repel down through a collapsed floor, and the stifling heat and dust make it hard to breathe. Your feet find solid ground. Ancient skeletons, human and snake hybrid alike, litter the floor. The scattered weapons and shattered bones make it appear as if some great battle was fought long ago. As you shift through the remains, the faint sound of chanting catches your attention.

You have finally found the serpent cult.

The Temple Time Forgot

The Lost Temple of Yig scenario is designed to be a fast-paced adventure deep in the heart of the jungle that brings players face-to-face with death at every turn, featuring a difficulty rating of five and a 90-120-minute time range. It will take everything you have to survive long enough to reach the ritual site, and even if you do, will you be able to stop the rite? The odds against you are enormous, but the price of failure is unthinkable.

There is no telling what horrors await you within the temple itself—towering basilisks, cursed artifacts, statues that come to life, and not to mention the very real dangers of crumbling floors and collapsing caverns that can hinder your investigation. If you are in a space buried by a new Rubble token, you cannot perform search, explore, or interact actions until you clear it by either using a heavy weapon or testing your strength to move the crumbling stone aside. Make sure you are prepared before you embark on your expedition—time is short, and you cannot afford to lose vital evidence beneath the fallen rocks.

As you journey deeper into the caverns, you will soon discover that this promises to be a challenge unlike anything you have seen in Mansions of Madness as the rooms shift around you with each exploration. Instead of having a collection of pre-built alternate maps that you can explore during your adventure, the map in Lost Temple of Yig changes with every playthrough, drawing from a pool of pre-made rooms that may move each time. Whenever one of your investigators open a door in this scenario, the app picks a room behind it, and the vast, twisting temple has more rooms than there are areas on the map, so there is no way to see all the rooms during a single playthrough. This means that it is nearly impossible for your team to encounter the same challenges in the same order twice, providing more replayability than any other scenario! You must always be on your toes, ready to spring into action against the dangers that lurk around every corner. Do you have what it takes to survive?

Face the Father of Serpents

If you succeed in your mission, you will put an end to the serpent people’s ritual and save our world from certain devastation. But if you fail, Yig will usher in a new age built on the ashes of humanity and all that you love will perish. Will you pass the trials of temple and save our world, or will your bones lie lost in the rubble forever?
