The Hunt for Æmber
More Details on Earning and Using Your KeyForge Æmbershards
“They aren’t that bad if you can pay their price.”
–Iona, Demonologist
Greetings, Archons!
Today, we have a special treat for you—one laden with the richest of Æmber and the most useful of discoveries. The secrets folded within the following words may not, themselves, open a Vault. But they may very well be worth all the treasures you'd find within one…
After all, this is where we address the most pressing of questions:
Just how do you get yourself a KeyForge-themed gamer chair?!!
(Yes, yes. We all know that the answer is you need to acquire Æmbershards and redeem them at a KeyForge Prize Wall… But now we hope to address the question of how many Æmbershards you might need and where you might find them.)
A World of Æmber
Before we leap like a cadre of Logos scientists deep into our Æmbershard data, we ask that you bear with us just one more second as we pursue another philosophical digression…
What is the central KeyForge experience? It is one of discovery, of exploration, of wonder and joy. To experience the game, you need to PLAY it. And the more you play, the more you learn.
Accordingly, KeyForge Organized Play is structured to reward your participation. The more you get involved, the more you'll uncover. The more you play, the more you discover. The more you explore, the more Æmbershards you can earn.
This is true at the local level, where you gain Æmbershards by discovering your decks and playing in your local ChainBound events. Dedicated players can easily earn several Æmbershards every week by playing in local tournaments—especially if you live close to two or more game stores that run regular ChainBound events.
However, these aren't the only ways you can earn Æmbershards.
Multiple tiers of KeyForge Organized Play will reward you with Æmbershards, and the more we ask of you—to seek out these experiences and to participate—the greater the rewards. And if you should ever attend a KeyForge tournament with a Prize Wall, you'll find yourself well on your way to earning the Æmbershards you'll want to redeem.
Will you get a chair, though? Hmm… Maybe. But just as some Vaults are trickier to open than others, so some prizes are more difficult to obtain.
Enough Already! Show Me the Numbers!
First of all, let's remember that you get one Æmbershard each time you discover a new Archon deck. After this, you can earn Æmbershards week after week by participating in your local ChainBound events—as we revealed in the article, "Power Up!"
Of course, there are more events at which you can earn Æmbershards than just your local ChainBound events and the Vault Tour. You can also earn them at KeyForge Store Championships, Prime Championships, and Grand Championships.
At each of these events, you'll earn a number of Æmbershards for participating and additional Æmbershards for each of your victories. Placing among the top competitors will also earn you a number of Æmbershards (which may vary depending upon the size of the event), and the Champion of these events will walk away happy that his or her digital Æmbershards don't have any real weight—otherwise those 500 Æmbershards you'd claim as the winner of a Vault Tour would be certain to strain your back!
And then? Then, you get to redeem these Æmbershards for prizes!
While we already revealed many of the prizes you'll find at the first Vault Tour stops in Seattle and Eindhoven, we're now pleased to share the number of Æmbershards you'll want to collect for each of these prizes! (Please note that these Æmbershard values may change as the Prize Walls are updated with new items.)
Again, for those of you who are unable to attend the Vault Tour in Seattle or Eindhoven, you'll find most—but not all—of these items available at later Vault Tour stops, and many of them will show up at other high-level tournaments as well. We'll even have a smaller version of the KeyForge Prize Wall available at some of the conventions we attend—so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter @FFGOP to stay up-to-date with all the latest Prize Wall announcements!
Make Your Æmber Work for You
You don't need to worry at all about your Æmbershards to enjoy your games of KeyForge. Even without your digital rewards, the game is still just as fast, crazy, and fun. You can still earn cards, playmats, deck boxes, metal keys, and all the other prizes available to your local game stores, Open Play Nights, and local events.
But for those of you who truly want to become Archons of renown—who scour the Crucible in search of its Æmber and its Vaults? Your Æmbershards are the keys to untold treasures! Each Vault holds new secrets, and each Vault Tour Prize Wall allows you to claim the prizes you desire.
Join us in Seattle or Eindhoven, or review our list of scheduled Vault Tour events to plan your attendance. The Crucible has only begun to reveal its secrets. There's still far more to come!
