“Lord Seaworth is a man of humble birth, but he reminded me of my duty, when all I could think of was my rights. I had the cart before the horse, Davos said. I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom, when I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne.”

–Stannis Baratheon, A Storm of Swords

Robb Stark has unknowingly marched to his doom in the Twins, the stronghold of House Frey—but although this catastrophe spells the end for the Young Wolf’s campaigns, it’s not the only momentous plot unfolding across Westeros. As Jon Snow climbs the Wall with the wildlings, Stannis Baratheon sails north to do what no other king has cared to—defend the very people who refused to recognize his rightful claim to the throne. Now, you can do the same with The Red Wedding Chapter Pack, now available for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game at your local United States retailer!

Like the other expansions of the Blood and Gold cycle, The Red Wedding continues the major themes of the cycle, chronicling the highlights of A Storm of Swords while giving support to the new bestow keyword. You’ll also find plenty of new ways for every faction to gain gold and spend it, giving you an increased level of control over the game. With a host of characters like Othell Yarwyck, Strong Belwas, Ser Osmund Kettleblack, and Walder Frey entering the game for the first time, every deck can find new ways to grow in this Chapter Pack.

Protect Your People

When you play as House Baratheon in A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, you’re looking for ways to maintain your power and solidify your claim to the Iron Throne—but you’re not interested in butchering your opponent’s characters. After all, they’re your future subjects. You simply want them to recognize that you truly are the rightful ruler of the realm. You want them to kneel.

Kneeling your opponent’s characters has been a central theme of House Baratheon since the Core Set, and in The Red Wedding, their House gains two more cards that both play into this theme.

First, you’ll find Ser Axell Florent (The Red Wedding, 67)—a staunch supporter of Melisandre (Core Set, 47), both in the books and in the card game. When Ser Axell Florent first enters play, you can demonstrate your loyalty to the Red God by bestowing up to three gold from your gold pool onto this card. Then, when you win a challenge in which Ser Axell Florent is participating, you may discard one gold from him to choose and kneel any character without attachments!

If you’re bold enough to show your devotion by bestowing gold on Ser Axell Florent, it’s easy to put your opponent in a lose-lose situation. If your opponent lets Ser Axell Florent win the challenge, then one of his best characters will be forced to kneel. But, on the other hand, if he defends to win the challenge himself, he’s just kneeling out more of his characters! And it’s also important to note that you can trigger Ser Axell Florent even if you win a challenge as the defender—preventing your opponent from making low-STR challenges without consequences.

Along with kneel, the other major theme of House Baratheon is their focus on winning dominance. These two themes are united in House Baratheon’s recurring event, Saving the Kingdom (The Red Wedding, 68). For two gold, you can play Saving the Kingdom and kneel any character with a STR of three or lower. Then, to truly cement your rule, that character cannot stand during the standing phase this round!

Essentially, with Saving the Kingdom, you’re kneeling a character for two complete rounds. With a massive range of targets including Jhogo (True Steel, 113), Maester Aemon (Core Set, 125), or Margaery Tyrell (Core Set, 181), Saving the Kingdom can open a hole in enemy defenses or force your opponent to defend with his high-impact characters if he wants to stop your challenges. And of course, every knelt character only reduces your opponent’s STR for dominance. Then, when you win dominance, you simply pay one gold to bring Saving the Kingdom back to your hand, ready to tip the scales in your favor once more.

Defend Your Claim

The Red Wedding has brought destruction to Robb Stark’s ambitions—and with this Chapter Pack, you can visit the same ruin on anyone who rejects your rightful rule.
