Enter the Mists

Mists of Bilehall and Three Lieutenant Packs Are Now Available

#Descent

Strange tidings emerge from the Mistlands, seeping out of the ever-present fog. Long the domain of Waiqar and his servants, the Mistlands are rightly shunned by many—but a corrosive power that threatens all Terrinoth is now massing within the Mistlands’ borders. Pass into the mists to begin a thrilling new campaign when you pick up your copy of Mists of Bilehall and its corresponding Lieutenant Packs at your local United States retailer or online through our webstore!

Mists of Bilehall gives you the chance to brave the tainted mists and enter Waiqar’s domain for the first time with a full, one-act campaign for Descent: Journeys in the Dark. Unlike prior Descent expansions, Mists of Bilehall doesn’t offer new heroes or hero classes. Instead, it has been tailored to increase the overlord player’s strength with twelve new monsters—six reanimates, three broodwalkers, and three bone horrors. New Tainted cards increase the dangers of being knocked out and the very ground can crumble beneath your hero’s feet, making this one of the most treacherous and dangerous Descent expansions yet.

Of course, the disturbing creatures and corrupting atmosphere aren’t the only threats the heroes will find in the Mistlands. Three new lieutenants can be found in the Kyndrithul Lieutenant Pack, the Zarihell Lieutenant Pack, and the Ardus Ix’Erebus Lieutenant Pack. Like previous Lieutenant Packs for Descent, each expansion introduces a sculpted plastic figure to replace the token included in Mists of Bilehall, but they also offer unique Plot decks and rules for bringing these lieutenants into any campaign as servants of the overlord player!

A Corrupting Influence

Danger lies in every wisp of fog or scrap of cloud in the Mistlands. The undead are common, vampire lords jockey for position and power in their shadowy courts, and even stranger creatures have been seen passing through the mists. No hero of Terrinoth would travel here without good reason, but news of an undead army massing on the border has led you to investigate.

Once you pass into the Mistlands, however, all logic and reason begins to fade. The ground shakes and falls apart beneath your feet, dumping you into reeking mud and filth. Strange spirits and monsters seen nowhere else in Terrinoth are found here in abundance. Perhaps you cannot even trust your own senses when every breath only brings more toxic mist into your body, slowly corrupting your will and eroding your purpose.

Our first Mists of Bilehall preview turned to the new tools gained by the overlord player in this expansion. Three new monster groups await your orders, and each offers a unique fighting style and new tactics that you can use. Reanimates prefer to fight in solid blocks, using their years of military experience to oppose the heroes. Bone horrors use their uncanny speed and reach to strike from afar, while broodwalkers—monstrous corpses animated by the colonies of beetles inhabiting their flesh—horrify the heroes with just their dreadful appearance.

Mists of Bilehall contains six reanimates, three bone horrors, and three broodwalkers.

Monsters aren’t the only new weapon the overlord player gains for his arsenal. The very air of the Mistlands carries a corrupting influence, and during the Mists of Bilehall campaign, a hero receives a Tainted card at the start of every quest. These Tainted cards initially seem to reward the heroes with additional health, but as soon as the hero is knocked out, the Tainted card is flipped over, revealing its true, insidious effect that may burden the hero for the rest of the quest, even after he is revived.

Lieutenants of Darkness

You’ll find even more servants of darkness at your disposal with the three new Lieutenant Packs associated with the Mists of Bilehall expansion. These lieutenants are native to the Mistlands, and each of them is a worthy opponent for the heroes, whether you use the detailed plastic figures to give life to these lieutenants in the Mists of Bilehall campaign or use them as your agents in any other Descent campaign.

We took the time to preview two of these Lieutenant Packs—the Kyndrithul Lieutenant Pack and the Ardus Ix’Erebus Lieutenant Pack. Kyndrithul is a vampire lord of the Mistlands, well versed in the arcane arts and prepared to even test his might against that of Waiqar the Undying. The heroes may find themselves unwitting pawns in Kyndrithul’s gambit for power, even as he drains the life from their bodies.

Ardus Ix’Erebus is another lieutenant that the heroes may contend with in their quests. As a member of Waiqar’s legendary Deathborn Legion, Ardus has had centuries of firsthand experience of battles and warfare to hone his tactics and fighting style. Any hero who dares to oppose Ardus Ix'Erebus must expect to face the strategies of a master warrior.

Finally, the heroes must face Zarihell, a sorceress who seems to command massive power over the spirits of the dead. The strength of her magic is obvious, but whence does that power truly come? And what is her motivation? While her goals may be inscrutable, the heroes would be foolish to stand in Zarihell’s path—a fact you can exploit as the overlord player!

The Cursed Realm

The billowing mists briefly part, granting you a glimpse of something strange and hideous further in the mists. Do you dare to move closer and find out what awaits? Within the Mistlands, you’ll find strange fates and powerful opponents—but you’ll also find the chance for true heroism. Gather your friends and pass beyond the Mistlands’ border when you pick up your copy of Mists of Bilehall and its Lieutenant Packs at your local retailer today!
