Once again, the shores of Ulthuan are besieged. Led by Malekith, a power-hungry betrayer who seeks to rule the High Elves or destroy them in the attempt, the insidious Dark Elves drive an army of slaves deep into the lands of the Phoenix King. This will be a battle that will shake the Old World to its core; Malekith's prowess is as legendary as his ultimate betrayal, but the Phoenix King and his followers will do everything in their power to oppose the vile and destructive Dark Elves.
In December, we announced Assault on Ulthuan, an upcoming deluxe expansion for Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game! The Assault on Ulthuan expansion explores the bitter enmity between the Dark Elves, a cruel race who enslave and sacrifice prisoners, and the High Elves, a proud race who rely on healing an ranged attacks. Featuring two forty-card core decks for these new factions, plus a host of new cards for players of existing factions, Assault on Ulthuan will bring a new level of excitement to your Warhammer: Invasion experience.
For this week’s “card of the week” feature, we’re pleased to reveal two powerful tactics that will no doubt become additions to any Elf player’s deck.
First, the tactic card "For Ulthuan!" allows a High Elf player to strike a devastating blow against an unsuspecting enemy. Before choosing which of your battlefield units will be taking part in either attack, play this card. You will want to build your battlefield units considerably beforehand, since you will have to split your attacking forces... but if played correctly, you can bring the game to an early end!
In response, the Dark Elves possess a tactic that is potentially every bit as devastating as the Orc’s Troll Vomit or the Empire’s Judgement of Verena. "Invoke Khaine’s Wrath" lets you deliver a harsh punishment to any foe, and its presence in your deck will make your opponent think twice about how many units to declare as attackers.

I too am a little disappointed with the art of these two cards...the grittier the better :) High Elves can can be done to have an ethereal feeling in a gritty environment IMO...c.f. Archmage of Saphery, Radiant Gaze - hope to see more like those.
Also hope that High Elves will have something to better manage multiple corrupted units, as Chaos means to corrupt become more abundant...

I hope most graphics will be Dark Sorceress level, rather than this. At least Khaine's wraith has a so much OMG effect that you maybe don't even recognize the picture :P
The Art On These Cards Is Not Good It Looks To Bright And Childish Where As Warhammer Art Should Be Dark Grim And A Bit More Believeable. Its A Shame Cause On Your Other Products Youve Done An Excelent Job.

I have to say that I have been drooling over the prospect of this expansion, Even more so that the Battle Packs. One of the best aspects of this game is how the various factions play so differently. Bring on more factions!!! Has anyone else played using 2 Capitals pushed together for mixed race decks? It helps with loyalty and you still have 1 Kingdom, 1 Quest and an extra long Battlefield. Waiting for Alliance cards to turn up is frustrating. Cheers!
I hope the rulebook embodied within this deluxe pack will detail what "units that participated in combat" exhaustively mean (i.e. does a Chosen of Tzeentch that didn't defend but used his action during a combat is "participating" or not ? )
Very nice card effects BTW. The loyalty cost of the High Elf one definately makes it a great card for any Order deck : I can't remember how many times I "lose" a turn to burn a section with only 1 or 2 HP remaining.
Mig el Pig: Thanks for taking the time to write about the background history of the two races. That was very informative. After playing the game, I got very interested in the Warhammer setting. I'm even planning on reading some of the Warhammer Fantasy novels.
Does anyone know if Malekith will make an appearance in the Dark Elf deck ?

meggypegs and robro, High Elves are Order, Dark Elves are Destruction. This box has decks and capital boards for both to help flesh them out as factions fully, they are currently getting some support in the BP's and the Core set but this will make them both playable just like the core set decks with a prebuilt deck for each race, making each side have three full races each with their own 40 card decks.
Their history is actually quite complicated,
The dark elves(also called Druchii) originally hail from the Ulthuan (High elf Continent) northern province of Nagarythe.
One of those Nagarythe called Aenarion became the first Phoenix King of all the elves. He and his people fought fiercely against Chaos in a long war until he eventually disappeared after being wounded in a great battle. (the elves did manage to 'limit' the chaos power to the poles) His son Malekith got bypassed as the next Phoenix King when the princes of the other provines elected one of their own, Bel Shanaar, as Phoenix King.
Malekith became a great general and his wars against the Orcs and Chaos increased the borders of the elven empire. Many new colonies were founded abroad from Ulthuan. He even founded an alliance between the dwarves and the elves, the 2 mightiest empires at the time, against Chaos (and Orcs)
Eventually Malekith accused Bel Shanaar of being a Slaanesh (one of the Chaos gods) cultist, Bel Shanaar got killed and Malekith was horribly disfigured by the Flames of Asuryan, a sacred ritual every Phoenix King had pass. He claimed that he was cursed by his opponents and after being nurtured back to health by his mother he rallied his people to his cause. A great civil war swept over Ulthuan but even the battlehardened Nagarythe could not defeat the rest of Ulthuan. In the end their sorcerers used dark magics to try end bend chaos to their will and destroy their opponents but their homeland got wrecked by the forces they unleashed and they had to flee. (in style though since they lifted their cities and used them as floating fortresses.
They inhabited a land north of Ulthuan and became the Dark Elves with Malekith as the Witch King. The High elves ended up in a war with the Dwarves (instigated by Dark Elf raids) which they lost. After which Malekith tried his first invasion of Ulthuan. He didn't succeed but the High elves had to abandon many of their colonies due to the civil war, the war against the dwarves and the raids and invasion of the Dark elves. The elves that got left behind in the oldworld (empire, kislev, bretonia,...) became the Wood Elves (also known as Asur)
