Warhammer 40,000: Conquest is a two-player Living Card Game® of interplanetary battles in the gritty futuristic setting of Warhammer 40,000. Each game of Warhammer 40,000: Conquest hurls you into a life-and-death combat for the Traxis sector, forcing you to secure your hold over the sector’s key planets. You must balance the concerns of present battles and future conquests as your warlord leads your armies to glorious victory. To claim the Traxis sector, you must conquer or die.
In the game, each player controls one warlord and his armies as you engage in interplanetary warfare. Warhammer 40,000: Conquest introduces seven distinct factions: Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks, Chaos, Dark Eldar, Eldar, and Tau. Each of these factions possesses a unique flavor and style of play, while an alignment wheel introduces the possibility of forming alliances between factions. Choose your warlord and gather your best armies. The Traxis sector awaits a new ruler!
At the center of any game of Warhammer 40,000: Conquest are the planets of the Traxis sector, represented by planet cards arranged in a row between the players. The planets that lie before you hold the key to victory over your opponent – by conquering three planets that share a common type symbol, you demonstrate your dominance of the sector and win the game! Every round, you and your opponent deploy units to these planets in anticipation of future battles.
Which planet you deploy your units to is a critical consideration in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest. Your units can be deployed to any planet, but only the first planet can be claimed by a player each round. It may be tempting to concentrate your full forces on the first planet each round, but spreading your forces across numerous planets is crucial to maintaining your offensive. Other planets may not directly bring you closer to victory, but they can grant you resources and added card draw during the command struggle. The necessity to gather extra resources and cards must be balanced against the battles to claim new planets.
The foundation of every deck in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest is the warlord. Each warlord possesses a powerful special ability befitting the leader of your armies, and your choice of warlord also determines how many resources and cards you receive at the beginning of the game. What’s more, each warlord comes with eight signature cards. These eight cards are known as the signature squad, and they support the warlord’s special ability and preferred play style, forming the backbone of your warlord’s strategy and operations.
Although your warlord is the beating heart of your military forces, he is not invincible, and losing your warlord always spells defeat for your cause. The first time your warlord is defeated in combat, he becomes bloodied, losing his special ability and growing weaker. If the bloodied warlord is defeated again, you lose the game!
