Thirst for Power

In the centuries since their downfall, the Uthuk’s unnatural bond to the Ynfernael has allowed them to bring the horrors of that realm into being, infesting their flesh and coursing through their veins. Now with their strength regained, the fanatical tribesmen of the Uthuk Y'llan fight alongside towering demonic creatures and flesh-warped monstrosities so tainted that they sear the sanity from those unfortunate enough to stand against them. Their leaders wield hellish power that ruins and pollutes the bodies of their foes, even as it corrupts their very souls.

The Uthuk Y’llan Infantry Command Unit Upgrade Expansion comes with four unpainted miniatures of these corrupted tribesmen that you can customize in any dark shade of your imagining. Additionally, this expansion includes an infantry movement tray and eighteen upgrade cards to infuse your demonic military with all the dark powers of the Ynfernael.

At the head of the Uthuk Y’llan’s forces are the Warsprinters, corrupted tribesmen who display their army’s standards and ill-gotten trophies from the unnatural growths that erupt from their backs. Their eerie banners inspire the locust swarm and their Ynfernael demons, spurring them on into battle. While their command tool is revealed, allies of the bloodthirsty Warsprinter gain increased mobility, using both the Warspinter's inspiration and their link to the Ynfernael to dart across the battlefield. By uniting the locust swarm beneath the banners of war, these dark standard bearers will lead your forces to glory.

For generations since the Uthuk Y’llan’s downfall at the end of the First Darkness, witches of the Blood Coven have renewed the horde’s allegiance to the darkness, and now through bloody offerings and horrific rites, they infuse their followers with the tainted gifts of the Ynfernael. A Pychosis Siren can invade the minds of her enemies as a skill action, inflicting panic on all who encounter her. The Witches of the Blood Coven can destroy your enemies before they even have a chance to defend—for how can you fight what only exists in your mind?

When the Uthuk hordes are unleashed, the witches direct the destruction through their most corrupted minions, the Shriekers. These altered beings were once members of the tribes of the Ru Darklands, but their cowardice or defiance of the Blood Witches' orders led them to a horrific fate. Now, these mindless shells relay the witches’ orders in the heat of battle, their enormous lungs allowing their shrieks to be heard across great distances. When the Uthuk take to the battlefield, an Aggressive Shrieker treats all of their march actions as modified by charges—without receiving panic tokens for failing to collide with an enemy during the charge. All fear and cowardice has been burned from these fighters, and now they can properly rain death upon the people of Terrinoth.

The Uthuk's dark pacts with the Ynfernael have twisted and changed their bodies over the years of their exile. This debased devotion has equipped a select few of the tribesmen of the Ru Darklands with a hellish blessing that twists their bodies and offers them inhuman strength. After a melee attack, a Grotesque Slasher can use their upgrade card to increase their odds of stunning or immobilizing enemies. They will even inflict self-harm if it means they will increase their own lethality. By uniting the Uthuk’s greatest fighters, nothing will stand in the way of your conquest.

During the First Darkness, the Uthuk Y’llan were pushed to the edge of extinction. The foolish Daqan believed that the forces of the locust swarm were as good as dead—but they were wrong. Now, the Uthuk army has returned stronger than ever, using their link to the Ynfernael to fill their ranks with more advanced fighters. Complete with blood witches, shriekers, grotesques, and warsprinters, the Uthuk Y'llan's infantry command are ready to face off against even the most highly trained armies of Terrinoth. Mistresses of Evil

The witches of the Blood Coven lead the armies of the Uthuk Y’llan into battle with an unparalleled ruthlessness, using their power over the Ynfernael to bolster their forces through horrific rites. These hags are as cunning as they are bloodthirsty. They will never ride into a battle where they are at a disadvantage, even if it means they must inflict self-harm to strengthen the greater host of the locust swarm. After energy tokens are cast during setup and the End Phase, a Bloodfire Witch may exhaust her upgrade card to recast an energy token. Even after the upgrade has been exhausted, the witch may inflict a wound upon herself and, in exchange for her sacrifice, recast an energy token with inactive unstable runes, helping to ensure that your connection to the unstable forces of the Ynfernael remains strong.

The witches of the Blood Coven have many areas of expertise, any of which may fit nicely into your battle stratagem. Having a Blood Diviner in your infantry offers you a special ability at the start of each round. The witch may use her dark powers of foresight to look at the top cards of the morale deck—up to the number of stable energy runes in play. If you choose to exhaust this upgrade, you may discard one of those cards. But this is not simply a one-use ability. If you offer the Ynfernael a blood sacrifice whenever a nearby unit loses at least one figure, you may ready Blood Diviner again.

Sowers of Sorrow

Warsprinters lead the locusts of the Uthuk Y’llan into battle, flying tattered standards from the unnatural spines that erupt from the skin of their backs. The Rage Spine upgrade states that after an enemy at range up to the number of unstable energy runes suffers the effects of a morale card with a single morale symbol, you may also suffer the effects of that card. In exchange for this sacrifice, you can force your enemy to suffer the effects of that card again.

These Uthuk bannermen and their grotesque trophies strike fear into the hearts of any who witness their sick traditions of adorning their spines with the bones and skulls of fallen foes. The Uthuk Bannerscamp equips you with a powerful ability, stating that, once per round, when a nearby enemy would suffer a morale test, you may instead cause them to receive panic tokens equal to the severity of that test. Beyond this, when an enemy at range one to five performs a rally action, that enemy also receives a panic token. When the warsprinters take to the field, no amount of inspiration can shake the dread that they spread among enemy ranks.

Screeching Patrols

Among the warriors of the Uthuk Y’llan, few would dare to defy the witches of the Blood Coven. The Shriekers serve as a living reminder as to why. Once Uthuk tribesmen, the Shriekers are cowards who willfully defied the witches and now face their just punishment. Kept alive with black magic, the tribesmen had their lungs ripped from their bodies, engorged, and then reattached. After this torture, their jaws are permanently unhinged and their minds burned with madness until no personality remains. These living shells now convey the tactical instructions of the witches when the locust swarm marches forth to battle.

Shriekers inspire fear from their enemies and loyalty from the warriors of the Uthuk Y’llan. In the heat of battle, a Rallying Shrieker can use a skill action to bolster their fellow warriors, allowing each ally between ranges one and three to either remove one bane or ready one upgrade card. Meanwhile, a Tactical Shrieker can navigate the chaos of war with ease, enabling its unit to disengage from enemies without receiving panic tokens. The Tactical Shrieker also has a defense value of four, making them ideal frontline fighters and difficult for your opponent to remove.

Devout Tribesmen

Not all members of the Uthuk army fear the terrible power of the Ynfernael. Some tribesmen embrace it and even offer themselves in sacrifice, praying for a dark blessing. Those who receive the favor of the Ynfernael become Grotesques—hulking monstrosities with minds twisted by maddening bloodlust. Free from the bonds of mortal needs and the instincts of self-preservation, these Grotesques and their disfigured forms are terrible to behold on the battlefield.

During either a melee or a ranged attack, a Mutilated Grotesque may exhaust their upgrade card to add a morale modifier. In addition to this more limited ability, whenever an enemy engaged with the Mutilated Grotesque suffers a morale test, you may draw an additional morale card, even if the Mutilated Grotesque card has been exhausted. With their minds and wills burned by their glorious ascension, Grotesques care not about the suffering of their mortal bodies. They are beyond the earthly plane and once they take to the battlefield, all shall know the enlightenment that can only come from true suffering.

The Uthuk Y'llan Bolster Their Strength

Long ago, in a time now consigned to myth, the Uthuk Y’llan traded their souls for power and made allegiances with the fell demons of the Ynfernael. Their foul armies swept across the lands like locusts, destroying all in their path.

In desperation, the people of Mennara forged an alliance against the demonic horde. Their united armies crushed Llovar’s forces, driving their shattered host back beyond the Ru Steppes and into the Darklands where they would surely wither and die.

But they did not die. And now, after a thousand years, the Uthuk Y’llan have returned.

Uthuk Witch

The witches of the Blood Coven drive the hordes of ravening Uthuk warriors ever onward into battle. For generations, the witches have renewed the horde’s allegiance to darkness, and now through bloody offerings and horrific rites, they infuse their followers with the tainted gifts of the Ynfernael. When the Uthuk hordes are unleashed, the witches direct the destruction through their most corrupted minions.

However, the witches are seldom content to stand idly by and let their servants revel in the slaughter. Blood Witches use their dark powers to invigorate the Locust Swarm, foresee the future, and invade the minds of both their Uthuk puppets and their enemies. The Psychosis Siren unit upgrade allows the player controlling a witch of the blood coven two terrifying powers.

Firstly, they may exhaust the card to cause every enemy from range 1 to the number of unstable rune icons on the field to suffer a severity-1 morale test. They may also choose an enemy from range 1 to the number of unstable rune icons on the field to receive a panic token, regardless of whether or not this upgrade card is exhausted. Witches of the Blood Coven thrive on their ability to inflict damage using only their dark arts from a distance, rarely putting themselves at risk. With naught but a gesture they can cause even the most stalwart of warriors to quail in fear at the oncoming onslaught of Uthuk savagery. Thus, the daughters of the Coven bring their vengeance to the citizens of Terrinoth.

Shrieker

The punishment for weakness or failure in the Uthuk swarm is often a swift but messy death, yet the witches of the Blood Coven do far worse to those who willfully disobey them. These poor wretches are dragged before a witch and held down so that she can slice open their backs and draw out their bloody lungs. Her magic keeps them alive even as she fuses the bones of their mouths open in a ghastly frozen shriek. Only an empty husk remains, blindly obeying the witch’s thoughts and screaming her commands to all who can hear.

The witches use these Shriekers to direct their slavering hordes, even as their blood-curdling howls strike terror into the hearts of the Uthuk’s enemies. Their unnatural fearless nature is embodied by the Aggressive Shrieker, which states that when the player commanding the Uthuk Y’llan performs a march, they may treat it as if it bears a charge modifier. The Shrieker does not receive a panic token if they do not collide with an enemy when using this ability. As their minds burn with the witches' commands, Shriekers will attack blindly at any opportunity. They know neither fear nor reason.

Warsprinter

When the Uthuk horde rushes into battle, the Warsprinters head the charge. The blood witches have rewarded these tribesmen with the honor of carrying the Locust Swarm’s grisly trophies. The witches reach into the trophy bearer’s body with their magic, warping and stretching the tribesman’s bones into great spikes and spurs that erupt from his back. The witches festoon these spurs with the skulls and bones of defeated foes, alongside the tattered banners of the Uthuk.

In combat, Warsprinters are as bloodthirsty as any Uthuk warrior as they lead the Locust Swarm’s assault force. As such, the card that bears their name allows the Warsprinters’ allies a skill action to perform a speed-1 march, as long as the Warsprinter's command tool is revealed. Additionally, the Warsprinter's unit can utilize a skill action to perform a march equal to the number of unstable runes on the field. To gain the favor of the Ynfernael, the Warsprinters know they must be the switfest and most ruthless of their ranks. By charging forward into the midst of bloody and brutal battle, they evade what they fear most—the wrath of the witches of the Blood Coven.

Grotesque

The so-called “Grotesques” are Uthuk tribesmen who have received the blessings of the Ynfernael through terrible rites. Those who wish to join their ranks offer their own blood, limbs, or even hearts up in sacrifice, hoping that the witches’ rituals will bestow upon them terrible power. The chosen few are transformed into hulking monstrosities, their minds melted by their ascension and their wills slaved to their mistresses. They care not who they kill, only that blood is spilt and flesh is torn, and they leave naught but gory carnage in their wake.

Combat against a Grotesque can have a lingering effect on even the bravest defenders. If the Grotesque Slasher joins your ranks, after the Grotesque engages in a melee, the player controlling them may roll an additional blue die. If the die reveals a strike icon, the Grotesque inflicts one stun token on the defender. If the roll produces a surge icon, the defender receives an immobilize token. However, the Grotesque will inflict as much harm as possible without any regard for their own safety. Upon using either of these abilities, the Grotesque suffers one wound.
