Arkham Horror Fiction
"We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.”
–H.P. Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu
Test your sanity.
The novels and novellas set in our Arkham Horror Files universe lead you far from the sheltered shores of ignorance and into the murky unknown. With a mix of pulp action and supernatural horror, they delve deep into the mysteries that lie beneath the surface of our known reality.
In the Arkham Horror Files universe, the Roaring Twenties aren’t quite how we remember them. There are flappers and jazz, plus Prohibition, bootleggers, and mobsters. But there are stranger things, as well. People have gone missing. Others have reported sightings of indescribable creatures. And the very air thickens with a sense of foreboding, passing through the streets like an evil mist. The Ancient Ones are stirring…
Inspired in part by the eerie fiction of H.P. Lovecraft, the Arkham Horror Files setting is one of terrors so unthinkable that merely catching sight of one can cause you to lose your grip on reality. The greatest of these are the Ancient Ones, horrifying beings from beyond time and space that threaten to wake from their eons-long slumber and return to the world.
In the face of these threats, humanity’s continued existence depends upon the actions of a few unlikely heroes—those men and women willing to stare into the maw of madness and take action. These heroic investigators and their adventures are the beating heart of the Arkham Horror Files universe.
These are their stories…
Novellas
See your favorite investigators as you’ve never seen them before—grappling with their choices and uncertainties, pitted against unthinkable evils, and fighting for their lives as they unravel the mysteries that forced them to come face to face with the Mythos for the first time!
Each Arkham Horror novella takes one of your favorite investigators from the Arkham Horror Files universe and shines a light upon the terrors and trials that shaped him or her.
With a blend of pulp action and supernatural horror, these hardbound novellas pursue their strange mysteries for roughly one-hundred pages—long enough to take a number of surprising twists and turns, but short enough to read at a fast clip.
Additionally, each of these Arkham Horror novellas come with a sixteen-page, full-color insert full of notes, drawings, newspaper clippings, book excerpts, photographs, and other in-universe artifacts that allow you to interact directly with the clues your protagonists are uncovering.
Finally, each hardbound novella comes with an exclusive set of five cards for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. Featuring a rules card, investigator card, investigator mini-card, and two signature cards (both of which feature the Replacement keyword), these card sets offer alternate ways of playing the novella’s investigator in Arkham Horror: The Card Game.
Novels
The Arkham Horror Files universe is set amid an age of monumental industrial and geopolitical changes.
Science is coming to terms with the theories of evolution, the discoveries of distant galaxies, and the idea that the universe is far older and far larger than anyone had previously thought. Humanity is realizing its place—and its role—in the universe is far smaller and less significant than anyone had previously suspected.
While this realization, alone, is fraught with terrors, it pales in comparison to the truths that still remain hidden. We are not alone. There are other creatures in the universe, residing on other worlds, in dimensions that we cannot perceive. And many of these are older than us. Far older. And far more powerful.
When the novellas of the Arkham Horror Files universe aren’t large enough to encompass the sheer scope and menace of these otherworldly Great Old Ones, you’ll find their stories brought to the page in our novels—both standalone novels and trilogies.
With their greater length, these novels provide your favorite investigators all the time they need to peel away at the veils between our world and the other dimensions. And you’ll be able to follow their progress from the moment at which they first brush up against some hint of a greater reality until that point at which their minds recoil from the sheer size and blasphemous unfamiliarity of the truths they will never again be able to unknow.
