Zombicide: Squid Game
Announcing the Next Expansion for Zombicide 2nd Edition
No one warned them.
The games were cruel, yes, but they were structured. Predictable, in their own twisted way. You moved when you were supposed to move. You stopped when told. You survived by understanding the rules.
And then the dead began to rise.
The Squid Game expansion brings Netflix’s global phenomenon into the Zombicide system, blending its stark, highly controlled arenas with the chaos of a full-blown zombie outbreak.
This expansion is built for Zombicide: 2nd Edition, seamlessly integrating with its rules while introducing a distinct thematic layer drawn from Squid Game. Players will navigate iconic locations that were already pretty deadly before the zombies even arrived, scavenging for equipment while confronting threats that don’t always behave like the undead they’re used to.
Because this time, you’re not just facing zombies.
One of the defining innovations of the Squid Game Zombicide Expansion is the introduction of Guards as a parallel threat alongside zombies. Both zombies and Guards are classified as Enemies, unified in how they pressure survivors, but fundamentally different in behavior.
Guards do not attack zombies, are not attacked by zombies, and move with calm precision, ignoring the chaos around them. This creates a different dynamic on the board; while zombies flood the map in familiar fashion, Guards pursue their own objectives, unaffected by the undead swarm. Divided into the three distinct roles of Workers (circles), Soldiers (triangles), and Managers (squares), they force players to constantly evaluate which threat demands immediate attention… and which one can wait.
But would you rather play AS these iconic characters, instead of against them? We got you! The expansion introduces playable character IDs for the following characters:
- The enigmatic Front Man
- The ever-present Worker, Soldier, and Manager
Each is fully playable in Zombicide: 2nd Edition, not just within these missions but across the entire game system.
Red Light. Green Light.
No element captures the fusion of Zombicide and Squid Game quite like Young-hee, The Doll.
Reimagined as a special Abomination, the Doll introduces a tension mechanic that transforms the flow of every turn. In Green Light, she watches nothing and is harmless. In Red Light, she sees everything and is anything but harmless. If she sees you, all Guards activate instantly. This single mechanic captures the essence of Squid Game’s most iconic challenge, translated into the Zombicide framework. It forces players to reconsider positioning, timing, and risk in ways that feel both fresh and thematic.
Not to mention, the Doll miniature itself stands as a centerpiece, an unforgettable visual that is as iconic as it is unsettling.
A New Kind of Scenario Design
The expansion’s missions lean heavily into Special Zones, representing memorable locations from the series. These spaces aren’t just cosmetic, they reshape gameplay with unique rules, just like the game arenas. Combined with the constant pressure of multiple enemy types, these scenarios feel less like traditional survival missions and more like trials. To support this, the introduction of Activation Tokens gives players greater flexibility than ever:
- Play with fewer than six Survivors
- Choose activation order dynamically
- Tailor the experience to your group size and style
The world of Squid Game has always been about control: who has it, who doesn’t, and what happens when the system breaks. In this expansion, that breaking point has arrived. The rules still exist. The arenas still function. The Guards still obey. But the dead don’t care about any of it, and neither should you.
Welcome to the island. You can still play. But now… you have to survive something no one planned for.
