“For what is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger.”
-- Aeron Damphair, A Song of Ice and Fire, Volume II: A Clash of Kings
Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce the reprint of the Kings of the Sea expansion for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game!
Now, instead of having only one deck of cards and a resin House card, this incarnation of Kings of the Sea features three copies each of the 60 unique cards included in the original printing, but does not include the resin House card. (Look for "Revised Edition" on the front of the box to be sure you purchase the right version.)
With the reprint of
Kings of the Sea
, you will get a full play set without having to purchase multiple copies and you can start building challenging and competitive House Greyjoy decks right away.
Welcome to the Iron Isles
For those A Game of Thrones players who are just entering the game and for whom Kings of the Sea is an entirely new expansion, a brief introduction is in order.
In short, Kings of the Sea adds House Greyjoy as another playable House, alongside those included in the A Game of Thrones Core Set* , with its own particular set of strengths and strategies. Strengths native to House Greyjoy include strong Locations in the form of Warships , lots of Stealth and abilities based on unopposed challenges, and deck discard (or "raiding").
A Clash of Kings
For more detailed information on what is included with Kings of the Sea, we turn to A Game of Thrones' lead designer, Nate French**:
"In this product, you’ll find numerous King and Queen characters, some new Kingdom locations, and a spattering of Military Battle , Intrigue Gambit , and Power Struggle plot cards. Additional use for “crested” characters is also prevalent (particularly Holy and War), and a major black hole in the AGoT LCG™ metagame, a realistic check on powerful locations, has been confronted.
We wanted this expansion to have “something for everyone,” even if they’re not at all interested in House Greyjoy. Thus, each House gets at least 1
King
or
Queen
, and the plot deck along with many of the neutral cards were selected as cards that could potentially be useful building blocks in the widest possible array of decks. So even a die-hard Lannister player should be able to find something of use in this set.
Kings of the Sea also includes an alternate multiplayer variant called “The Kingsmoot,” in which players compete for six distinctive Iron Islands titles in an attempt to hold all six of them simultaneously."
Coming this Spring, Kings of the Sea returns with more cards for expanded A Game of Thrones deck-building options. Board your longships and harness the fury of the Iron Fleet!
