UFS at GenCon

GenCon: One part reunion, one part exhibition, one part extravaganza and all about gaming! This year the UFS World Championship returns to the biggest four days in gaming. The competition will be fierce as the meta sorts itself out after the banning of Happy Holidays, and the — love it or hate it — Concealed Shallow Swipe. Talking to people in the UFS community, I can already tell that you are as excited as I am for the tournament.
Of course, everyone that comes to GenCon wants to play in UFS World Championships, but due to construction at the convention center, all GenCon events are capped at 128 people. We are running four grinders to make sure everyone gets a shot at qualifying. The Top 16 of each grinder will receive a bid for Worlds. The grinders may be granted more bids based on multi-qualification and attendance. There will be more information on this released at the tournament. The winner of each qualifying event will also get a beautiful uncut sheet of UFS cards!
For the casually competitive, we will have Ladies Night, Highlander, 6 x 10, and Common Grounds events. Besides providing great times with some good friends, these events will feature some killer prizes: The winner of the Highlander tournament gets a ninja sword, and Ladies Night will feature posters of everyone's favorite fighting game girls: Chun LI, Felicia and Zangief.
During GenCon there will also be the UFS Team World Championship for a store asset card, and the World Legacy Tournament. The winner of the World Legacy Tournament will receive a classic gaming console with a UFS license fighting game.
The real action will, of course, be the UFS World Singles Championship. Here, players will see the best competition since…well…last year. Will Matt Kohls or Andrew Olexa be repeat Champions? Or will an unknown player rip through the qualifiers and play dark horse this year? Either way, the winner will receive the Coolest Prize in Gaming, a tournament-legal UFS card with their name and likeness! First and second place will receive an Apple iPod Touch and the rest of the Top 8 will each receive a Nintendo DS for the ride home (as long as you're not the one driving -- ed.)! There are a ton of other cool prizes to be handed out during the course of the tournaments.
I look forward to meeting you all! GenCon is just four weeks away!
Important note: The Grinders listed on the GenCon website as starting at 9:00 PM are going to start at 7:00 PM. We apologize for the confusion.
