Temujin's Bio

Name: Temujin

Weight: 150lbs
Blood Type: B

Origins:

While in the great Empires of man the Order and the Covenant fight their ShadoWar, beyond their borders men still live free. When, during the course of things, men, women, and teachings wish to disappear for a time, it is in these hinterlands that they do it.

Centuries ago, one such organization arranged to vanish into the steppes of Mongolia. Keepers of a hidden truth and of forgotten techniques and styles, they have renounced all involvement in the ShadoWar and successfully faded from the awareness of both the Order of the Celestial Dawn and the Covenant of Twilight. So complete was their vanishing that not even their name is remembered.

When Temujin was born under a red Mongolian dawn, the elders of his tribe determined that his was a destiny of greatness. From an early age they began to teach him wisdom, judgement, balance, and martial arts. To these last, Temujin took easily and eagerly. His other lessons, however, bored him, and Temujin quickly became the most restless example of a restless and nomadic people. He would ride off into the wilderness of the Steppes on his own for days or weeks at a time, abandoning his lessons but never his learning. From the hawk he learned alertness, from his horse he learned endurance, and from the tiny desert mouse he learned that even small and humble things are important.

By the time Temujin was 18, he was the finest horseman, the best archer, the most cunning tracker, and the mightiest warrior in his tribe. Amongst the nomads of the steppes, word of Temujin's prowess spread despite the urgings of his teachers to keep a low profile.

One day, Temujin returned from a journey to find that disaster had struck his tribe. His family was in a panic, his mother in tears, his youngest siblings wailing, his father, younger brother, and many of the tribe's warriors missing. Others nursed grievous injuries, too badly hurt to sit a horse.

Finally, Temujin coaxed the story from his sobbing mother. A stern old woman calling herself White Crane had arrived at the nomad's camp that morning, asking for Temujin. When she was informed that he was not there, she became angry. A fight broke out, during which White Crane single-handedly defeated all the best warriors of the tribe. Her anger grew with each conflict, until Temujin's brother Qasar, in an attempt to appease her, presented himself as Temujin. White Crane then told the boy that she was a member of something called the Order of the Celestial Dawn and that she was going to take him away to a temple for training. Her tone would allow no refusal, and in any case Qasar was desperate to get her to stop hurting his friends, so the boy agreed. After they left, Temujin's father led a band of warriors after her to get his son back.

Temujin, without even pausing to wash the dust of the trail off his face, hands, or feet, mounted his horse and set off in pursuit. He tracked his clansmen to a nearby village, arriving shortly after sunset to find the place in flames. Black-clad men and women ran between burning yurts, moving with deadly grace and intent. The sounds of panicked and wounded men and horses rang out everywhere. In the center of the chaos, a stern-faced old woman in white clothes of the southern style was battling Temujin's father's men and black-clad assassins with equal contempt, using sophisticated techniques far beyond anything Temujin had ever seen before.

When it was over, Qasar lay dead alongside his father. White Crane was nowhere to be seen, but everywhere was the sigil of what Temujin came to know as the Covenant of Twilight. The village was destroyed, its people dead or scattered to be absorbed by other tribes.

When Temujin returned home, his boastfulness was gone. He resumed his training with a new purpose. Never again would he allow the Order or the Covenant to meddle in the affairs of his people. His cause became freedom and vengeance in equal measure.

Temujin now bears the ancestral weapon and armor of his tribe and stands as a worthy inheritor of a legacy he knows nothing about, but whose ideals he exemplifies as naturally as breathing.

Personality

Temujin is the definition of the term "free spirit." He is friendly, outgoing, and boisterous without being proud. He's quick to laugh, quick to fight, and quick to forgive minor slights. Having already been wronged as profoundly as he thinks is possible, lesser sins against him are all minor affairs, easily resolved with a quick brawl.

Hailing from a people with a rich oral tradition, Temujin is a talker. He will converse, gladly, with anyone on any subject, including or especially his enemies. Telling stories, swapping lineages, or telling jokes, it makes no difference to Temujin–nothing brightens up a long, boring ride like a little conversation, after all. When no one else is around, he will even talk to his horse.

Even more a committed nomad than he was in his youth, Temujin wanders freely. He considers nothing off-limits for a free man and believes that all men are free.

Fighting Style

Temujin knows that he's one of the best fighters in the world, and has no interest in proving himself to anyone but himself. He also retains his love of learning, and views every battle as a chance to learn and improve. Given his talkative and easy-going nature and complete confidence in himself, many enemies just don't know what to make of Temujin. Many find themselves liking him despite themselves and what may have begun as a duel to the death may somehow be transformed into a sparring session between friends and equals to the mystification of all concerned (save Temujin himself, of course).

When it comes time to fight in earnest, however, Temujin is a terrifying opponent. His principle weapon is the dragon-headed staff bestowed upon him by his elders, called Wandering Dragon, and he uses it as an extension of himself. He will use the "Dragon's Tail" (spear) end of his weapon in long sweeps to unbalance his opponent, and then whip the weapon around and blast them with fire from the "Dragon's Head" end. He uses the smoke constantly belched by the Dragon's Head to conceal his movements and blind his enemy, and likes to attack rapidly with wide sweeps of his weapon, alternating between high and low, sweeps and long, powerful, strikes. He's not afraid to get in close, using his staff as additional leverage for throws or as a tool for pinning an opponent.

A nomad to the core, Temujin prefers a mobile combat style, constantly moving, striking and retreating with fluid strokes. Although he'll keep up a constant stream of banter and conversation, Temujin does not stop even for an instant until the battle is over.
