The Legend
It has been a hundred years since the Shadow fell…
Such are the words that precede the popular
MIDNIGHT roleplaying game by Fantasy Flight Games.
In the world of MIDNIGHT, the dark god Izrador reigns victorious. After three ages of scheming and war, Izrador has finally defeated the heroes and armies of the free races. Now the dark god rules the world of Aryth with an iron fist.
Enslaved under the Shadow, the race of men leads an oppressed existence, and the Elves and Dwarves have retreated to distant forests and mountains, where their desperate resistance is slowly succumbing to the unyielding might of the Shadow.
It is a time of overwhelming darkness. The fickle flame of hope is almost extinguished, its dying light guarded only by those few heroes who still dare to dream of freedom.
The Chronicle
The evil legate Mag Kiln has been ordered to travel to the small Erenlander town of Blackweir to investigate the disappearance of a legate priest. In Blackweir, Mag Kiln soon becomes entangled in an old mystery, and begins to uncover not only the forbidden legacy of the town, but the malevolent, prophetic force that grows within him.
MIDNIGHT CHRONICLES is the epic narrative that tells the tale of two legendary characters, one for the cause of good, the other for the cause of evil. This is the story of their rise, their struggle, and ultimately their fate, as their destinies become intertwined with that of the world and the dark god that occupies it.
The MIDNIGHT CHRONICLES movie is the beginning of this epic narrative; it tells the tale of how the two legends came upon their fateful paths.
The Vision
In the summer of 2005, Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) began work on the creation of a modern film and TV studio that would be capable of creating epic stories and visualizing worlds in a live-action format for a new age of media distribution.
By utilizing cutting-edge media capture, animation, and compositing technologies; by harnessing the incredible talent of the Minnesota creative community; and by investing in the partnerships that lie ahead in the coming revolution of media delivery, FFG hopes to create a studio that will be able to craft content for the media consumer of the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres.
MIDNIGHT CHRONICLES is the first product of our studio: a full-length feature film that will not only function as a great entertainment product on its own, but also serves as the pilot episode for an episodal MIDNIGHT CHRONICLES series that will continue this epic tale in 45-minute installments.
The Production
The actual production of the MIDNIGHT CHRONICLES movie started in late April 2006, and will wrap shooting in late August 2006. With a concurrent post-production schedule, FFG hopes to have the finished movie available in 2008.
The production was made possible by the hard work and investment of Fantasy Flight Games, and the incredible contributions of a talented cast and crew from the local Minneapolis/St.Paul area.
MIDNIGHT CHRONICLES was shot at FFG’s “Landroval Studios” in Roseville, MN, and on location in beautiful areas of Wisconsin and Minnesota.
The production of an independent fantasy film has been an incredible challenge. FFG assembled a talented cast and crew, as well as a fantastic team of costume, props, and set craftsmen tasked with creating every single element seen on the screen. We hope that the love, care, and serious commitment that we placed in this movie will be appreciated by fantasy audiences everywhere.
The Release
We will furiously be working on post-production during the next three months (and much work has been done already). We hope to release the movie to the public at the end of 2007, but a precise date cannot yet be set. We are still working to solidify a network of distribution partners, but our distribution aims include wide DVD, HD-DVD, BLU-RAY DVD releases, for-pay internet download availability, as well as domestic and international broadcast. In addition, we would seek to work with local and national theater chains (as well a game stores) for theatrical releases. We will keep you informed on this web site with more information regarding our release date and distribution availability.
The Future
FFG hopes that the success of the MIDNIGHT CHRONICLES pilot movie will allow our studio to create additional episodes for MIDNIGHT CHRONICLES, as well as create additional live-action films and shows for the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres.
