A puzzle for Lord of the Rings: the Confrontation Deluxe Edition by Thorin N. Tatge
Sometimes brute force is not the answer. Sometimes the best way to win is not to fight. Can you walk the Pacifist Way?
You are playing The Confrontation using the Variant characters. You are the Fellowship player. After several turns of gameplay, the board looks like this.
Your last card is the 4. Your opponent's last card is the 2. Frodo has been defeated, leaving Sam the Ringbearer. If you get Sam into Mordor, you will win.
It is your turn. You know that the only force standing between Sam and Mordor is the Witch King. You also know that if Sam fights the Witch King while the only cards left are your 4 and the Sauron player's 2, then you will win. However, if the Sauron player is able to force you to play a card, then both your hands will refresh and the fight between Sam and the Witch King becomes too risky. How can you ensure, assuming best play from the Sauron player, that no cards will be played until and unless it comes time to fight the Witch King?
Congratulations to Thomas Henage of Madison, Wisconsin! His winning answer was randomly chosen to receive 50 FFG bucks, redeemable for any FFG product. To see this puzzle's solution, click here.
