Here we go!

First one is the Krampus, intended to be taken from German tradition. Anyone from Deutschland to confirm?
It's a creature of nightmares, who takes bad children on Christmas Time, so we gave him a very difficult and dangerous horror check and nightmarish 1. He has a simpler combat check. He has toughness 2 because he's depicted as bigger than a normal human.

What do you think?
Next one is a totally new monster, no source to take him from... We were inspired by this image when we were searching the web for an Egyptian related monster image.
The hound is ok, but are you passing 3 combat ROUNDS or 3 separate combats? Meaning, normally if I cast a spell, and fail the first round, I can still get a bonus from that spell for the next ROUND. Is your monster intended to work this way?

Medusa seems a bit backwards as far as the theme goes. I would think that if you failed the HORROR check, you saw her and were petrified. In mythos stories, they usually accompany, precede, and often announce their masters (especially Azathoth). This is the reason for their ability to add to the doom track. When a Servitor comes into play, it would be in the best interest of the investigators to eliminate it quickly.

Mr. Shiny has been known to work closely with various cults to help bring about the end of this world at the hands (tentacles) of the Great Old Ones and Outer Gods.
Re:Custom Monsters

I've been trying out 17 of the custom monsters provided in this forum in my games. Now that I'm ready to add the Dunwich Horror expansion again, I'm wondering if the additional 16 monsters are going to have any negative effect. One person is already complaining about how difficult the new monsters are, and I don't think we've even seen a Cultist in the past 2 games.

How is everyone adding monsters to the cup?

I'm thinking of a couple of ways to do this. 1) Just dump in new monsters. For every 8 new monsters, add 1 Cultist. For every 2 Cultists you add, also add a Maniac. So for Dunwich, with 16 new monsters for the cup, also add 2 Cultists and 1 Maniac. This keeps the proportion of "human" monsters the same. It's pretty easy, as you just need to keep count of the new monsters in use.

2) Start a monster exchange program for everyone except Cultists and Maniacs. Swap one in for each one taken out of the cup, targeting those monsters in the existing cup that i) have the same symbol and ii) are duplicates. Track the difference the swap has made to the cup so you can try to compensate the next time you want to add a new monster. This method is more complicated depending on what monster stats you track, but it doesn't require additional Cultist and Maniac markers.

(2) Strange Eons 2.00 has several new options for monsters. It doesn't have +? awareness, but it does have both — and * (as well as -?). The — would represent an automatic pass, so it seems that it would fit what you want to do. I've also redone the graphics so the tokens look nicer as well.

Edit: a third thing: it seems like the new "Elusive" rule from Kingsport Horror might be useful for these, though I haven't actually seen the rule yet.

Edit: Just to prevent any confusion: the -?/+? above were actually typed in as lemniscates (infinity symbols). Some bit of software along the way decided it didn't recognize them and converted them into "?".

Cheers,
Chris

Re:Custom Monsters

My brother, being a tremendous Dagon supporter, couldn't wait for the Innsmouth expansion... In his impatience, he decided the time had come to throw together a Deep One monster. Now, I know a lot of folks have probably tried their hands at it, but I unfortunately missed all of them... So here's his go;

There you are. Sorry that it's a little big.

Alright. So our reasoning for it all... Since Deep Ones live at the deepest oceanic depths, we figured we'd opt for Physical resistance since they'd have to be thick enough to handle that kind of pressure. Two toughness as they aren't totally monstrous, but as I learned from Dark Corners of the Earth, can take a little licking.

Since he's got Physical Resistance, we didn't want to make it TOO troubling, so we opted for a -2 combat check. Given the teeth and claws, at least in this representation, we figured an encounter could go painfully - hence the three damage... Especially from Dark Corners of the Earth in which they seemed much akin to the Hunters from Resident Evil if anyone's familiar.

The sanity such and such we decided from looking at other similar creatures in the monster cup and sort of following what trends we could find. I think the outcome just seemed right at the time. The dimensional symbol was chosen for ties to R'lyeh, given their aquatic nature... I think we followed the same schematic for the awareness as we did the sanity. After we matched it up, it seemed right for the time being.

There you have it, gents. I encourage you to tear it up and analyze it to your heart's content... I'd like to know if there are any really obvious errors in judgment or anything we may have overlooked in it's construction. Let me know what you think of it - How it stacks up, or how it matches the Deep Ones at all. I'm itching to know how we can perfect it. Hope we did fairly at least, and I hope somebody maybe gets a kick out of it.

Custom Monsters

I love the hidden cultists idea - I'd had a similar one myself. Here's my tuppenorth.

1. I strongly recommend you make the check only on Luck or Lore, not both, as these are opposing stats and many Investigators will struggle to complete them at the level you have set them. Will is often used for persuasiveness and social checks and is a better attribute to use in the cirucmstances. This competes with Fight and still gives the Investigator tricky choices which they may mitigate by lowering their combat chances to pass the first check, but increasing the potential damage they will suffer from the Cultist as a consequence.

2. You may also consider making your Cultists Elusive as well. This solves the Alertness issue you raised.

3. Don't add a doom token when these monsters are drawn. Instead make them Green monsters and the following text: When Cultist (Cop) moves add a Doom Token to the Ancient One and return Cultist (Cop) to the cup

4. You don't need to add another monster to the board when you draw these monsters. I can understand that you may be concerned, as the city could be fill of cultists at rarely visitted locations whilst the Outskirts fills with all manner of denizens of the night, but stopping an additional Doom Token being added to the track is plenty incentive enough for the Investigators to seek them out.

5. Defeated Cultists should go to back to the Box. Don't remove a Doom Token, as you never added one in the first place. They should only cause the Terror Level on a failure on a d6. (Remember the effect of blessings and Curses here)

How about the Parishioner grant a gain to Sanity or Stamina (maybe 1 to both) upon defeat?

Hehe, funny enough my take on the Deep one is almost identical to yours:
