Awesome, thanks for the update. We generally use the cones that come with the 3rd edition, as stacking is a little easier. Having miniatures will be cool too. Wonder what they look like? Also kind of curious what areas the expansion will focus on.

No retreat, no surrender.

Ya know...if I make a post like that *AND* real news comes out! I'll have to do it DAILY

I just hope they don't change up the board too much. LOL... What do they mean by small cards? Art on one side and text on the other? That can't be though. Ehhhhh help me out here. They mentioned some other " unfamiliar " game when they mentioned the cards. Also I did not catch the name of the first expansion.

I love that magnificent blue haired bastard.

Kinda mad that I'll have to buy it again, but with the minis, redone cards, and an expansion, I will suppress my nerdrage at that.

I'll donate my 4E set to a buddy or something.

Anything you say is beneath me now...

Arkham Horror. It's a Cthulu mythos game. The cards are about 3/4 the size of the 4E Talisman cards, and the artwork is faded but makes up the whole face of the card, and text is superimposed on top.

Lets make this shit official!

http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/12489.html wrote:Fantasy Flight Games has announced an October release for the Revised 4th Edition of the Talisman Board Game (MSRP $49.95). 2008 marks the 25th anniversary of this fan favorite magical quest board game and FFG’s revised version adds 14 highly detailed plastic figures (toads included), a revision of the rules, and upgraded components all around. Upon the launch of the Revised 4th Edition, FFG will also make available an upgrade kit, which will include the new plastic figures, revised rules and cards, for those who purchased Games Workshop’s 4th Edition of Talisman, which was released in October of 2007.

The 4th Edition of Talisman was based primarily on the 2nd Edition of the game, which was considered more popular with gamers than the 3rd Edition. It remains to be seen where Fantasy Flight, which has loads of experience creating board games, will take Talisman, which it acquired earlier this year along with the rights to Games Workshop’s RPGs and card games (see “FFG Gets Games Workshop’s RPGs, Card and Board Games”).

FFG has also announced that “a plethora of expansions” for Talisman are in the works. The first of these, the Death and Glory Expansion (MSRP $19.95) is slated for release by Christmas 2008.

Thats pretty cool that there will be an upgrade pack option for poeple who dont want to rebuy again. Then again, i'll want all those errors on the board fixed up, so i'll probably just pickup the whole pack again!

the upgrade pack makes me the happiest.

FFG just secured my loyalty for their Talisman line.

Why so serious?

I agree! I was actually pouting a bit from the news, all feeling like the money I'd spent on 4e was effectively wasted if I need to buy a new game to enjoy the expansions. The upgrade pack was a nice piece to quell that concern.

That said, perhaps I'll buy the whole new release, we'll see. Depends on how much the upgrade pack costs, and whether I'd really want the FFG board and anything else that I'd need the full game to get.

Me too. All potential nerdrage was averted by that simple line about the upgrade pack.

That being said, I'll still buy a new one, just because I'm that impressed with FFG now.

So what I'll do is donate my copy of Talisman 4E to my local hobby shop in hopes that they run a few games here and there and get more people in the area interested. Might even buy them the upgrade.

But that's months away.

OK, FFG is now offically THE GREATEST COMPANY OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least in my book!

Words of warning to you folks new to FFG. October generally translates to January, but it's always worth the wait!

Well, depends on how long they've been planning it. They had a few press units done already at GAMA (At least that's the impression I got) so I imagine they have dies and molds ready for the full run. The expansion set might be 2009 though.

We'll see. Just a warning. Personally, as long as it's coming and going to be great, I can wait!

The fact that they'd make an upgrade pack for existing game owners is very cool on their part. Good job, Fantasy Flight.

No retreat, no surrender.

Hummm Version 4 'Upgrade' *Imagination running wild here* a BIG HUGE STICKER to go over the original board, with all of the printing errors fixed, or maybe 'Place this new 'Oasis' sticker over the old Oasis.

Ya know... (search Ebay to confirm this) but Talisman Edition 2 and expansions are rather Pricey there, maybe I'll just take my original 4E, put it up on a shelf, 'marked' 'gentley played' and let it gather some dust for a few years... who knows... maybe my original $50.00 investment will be worth $150.00 in another 25 years (for those younger folk, this is called sarcasm, the game originally purchased in the 80's has go way up in price since the original release...but dont forget in the 80's we had Gasoline for what? $1.00 a gallon? and look at it today $3.60, so would this be a 'real investment' Nah it wouldnt. (Unless you have several copies of 2E Dragons Unpunched... now I know someone who paid $300.00 for that expansion (nooooooooo dont look my way, I'd NEVER pay that much, well.. I dont think I'd pay that much...well I HOPE I wouldnt pay that much...well HELL I had Talisman Edition 2 and all the other Expansions, I NEEDED DRAGONS ! ! !)

So I'll probably buy Version 4.5.

if they're smart, they'll use pre-painted plastic ones. they're cheaper and more durable.

we got tired of the cardboard and have been using D&D miniatures (forest troll ftw) for the characters.

I doubt they will be as games like WoW don't have painted minis.

I wouldn't say no to a limited edition pewter collector's set though...

i really wonder if ffg will really continue 4ed. i still dont believe it until it is on the shelves. how can they continue without the original artists ?
what plastic miniatures ? those from descent and runebound with new charactercards for them ???
beside, i dont like the 4e board really, looks like someone has swept his coffee all over it. well, had the adcantage that if someone sweeps his coffee over it ,it wont mention
and the price fpr the upgrade kit ? i would say 50§ for the full set and 44,95$ for the upgrade
about time scedules , look at the next runebound board expansion, was announced for christman 07, now its not even in the "what will come" column and runebound midnight is gone.

so be cool, wait what will come, and save you love for the reality, not for your hope !

The page for Runebound Midnight is still there if people are interested though. Perhaps it just wasn't a popular expansion...

LOL... Have to disagree with ya, the 4th ed board is the best. IMO. Hey if the mini's are from Decent characters with talisman cards that would be fine with me. The price is a little weird though your right. I am sure I'll get the game anyway.
