Thanks for the uplifting information Strayknife. I was beginning to lose hope for this again. The Tomb of Ice heroes look pretty cool!

Unfortunately, I did. But I will say that if you're a Runebound fan, you'll probably dig this game!
Thanks for the awesome news! I'll keep an eye on this one (well, at least I would if I knew what it was I was keeping an eye on). I figured the ToI heroes would be ported from Frozen Wastes as only one looked anything like what was on the ToI box. Was the Descent promo (ugh) figure from Frozen Wastes as well?

Wouldn't you know it; after being lured off the path to KINGSBURG by the allure of the arcane secrets of the BATTLELORE, a MUTINY rendered me a lone WARRIOR KNIGHT, causing my DESCENT into the depths where I escaped the CAVE TROLL by unlocking the DRAKON's devious RUNEBOUND door, only to face the promised and forgotten ARKHAM HORROR. |

I believe he is talking about Middle-Earth Quest, which probably will be released in Spring 2009.

Glad it's not MEQ. I will NOT put up with another LotR game, no matter how good.

What's the beef with LotR games? It's a rich theme and story...much more so than Runebound (although I have come to enjoy the generic fantasy themes of Runebound). What we don't need more of is BAD LotR games as there are only a handful of good ones (many of which are published by FFG). If MEQ falls in the good category then I'll be happy.

Hmmm...not MEQ...I just hope it's not a new edition release then...it would be sad to see the 2nd edition support go the way of the dodo.

I've already seen it posted on news sites, so the cat is out of the bag. The game that was being play tested was A Song of Ice and Fire: The Adventure game.
That's all I'm gonna say! haha

LotR has been done to death. If a designer/company is inventive enough to make their own good game, I demand that they be inventive enough to also make their own theme.
Besides, I liked LotR better when it was called "Norse Mythology".

I was hoping it was A Game of Thrones adventure game...hope it turns out that there's less combat and more intrigue as it has been announced.
LotR may have borrowed heavily from Norse Mythology and other lengends...but comparing the two is like comparing a skeleton and a vampire: both undead, but two very different beasts...the latter is much more fleshed out, so to speak.

I don't agree. LotR, and the Hobbit especially, is simply Norse Mythology strung together into a coherent story instead of separate episodes. I mean, even the greater majority of the names are lifted directly from mythology (which Tolkien later regretted). What Tolkien did add, was characterization. Otherwise, if you've read one, you've read the other. The Silmarillion, though it suffers from the same affliction, is really where it's at since Tolkien was telling his own stories and only borrowing from time to time, with a worldly and historical theme underlying it. But alas (or maybe thankfully), no movie has been made of the Silmarillion, so no one cares.
Now that Battlelore has been picked up by Fantasy Flight, I guess Frozen Wastes will be even more on the back burner, which may not stop it from coming at this point, but will certainly affect whatever would have come after it. Not happy about it at; I like FFG, but I don't want ALL my favorite games coming from one company.

Well, we'll just have to disagree on this point then...and even if more explanations were warranted, better man (or woman) than I would be needed to answer that question (ie: Tolkien scholar).
I looked at my small, but steadily growing game collection lately...and much to my surprise, a lot of them were FFG buys:
The Arkham Horror of it all!

A lot of my games are FFG as well, but the thing is, now even more of my games are FFG. Both Kingsburg and Battlelore are FFG now, even if their logo isn't on my copies. In other threads, I stated I was concerned there would be a "Battlelore 2nd Edition" now that FFG has the rights, thinking of Talisman 2nd 4th Edition or whatever they're calling it. But I guess if there's no Kingsburg 2nd Edition, perhaps there won't be a Battlelore 2nd edition (and I hope not).

Man, FW went to the printer weeks ago, was demoed at GenCon, and STILL no official word on its existence? Are they waiting until they can call it "Thawed Wastes"?

So hope not to take place. however, sounds like a tide.

Those of us who got on board with Runebound 1st ed well remember waiting over 2 years for Isle of Dread, so the wait for Frozen Wastes is nothing.
(Well, it's something, but it's not that...)

Yes, but wasn't there official news of Isle of Dread along the way? With Thawing Wastes, we've got no offical news...

Not really, except to say that it would be delayed by the decision to come out with 2nd edition RB less than a year after 1st edition came out. Now THAT was a decison that caused quite the stir here and on other sites.
The weasel's hair started to fall out and turn gray while that long interlude was taking place...Wait, no, that was my hair. It wasn't until after Isle came out that the weasel started having his troubles.

You mean the delay and lack of info could mean a 3rd edition? Don't know if I could swallow that! I sure hope not!

Thanks for the info, leaf427!
I hope Frozen Wastes will have plentiful pieces and unique mechanics that revives the Runebound series for that kind of price. I don't blame them for upping their prices, but I'm not sure if FW would be worth it for me now, though I've all of the other expansions. (including Midnight)
Anyone else think this way as well?

I see that the original price was $39.95 to begin with, which was the same as Sands of Al-Kalim but more than Isle of Dread, which had roughly the same new pieces and cards but 2 more figures then SoAK. Now the cost is $10 more than either SoAK or IoD. So I'm hoping for even more than before. But I don't really know how--or if--the new prices are reflective of this. I wish they'd post some info on the site.
As far as whether it's worth it, regardless of what's inside, unless it emphasizes multiplayer mechanics like Midnight did, I will absolutely buy it.

I wouldn't count this coming up on the upcoming page; it hasn't been updated in over a month, and every time it gets updated, FW gets left off.
That' price change for JUST FW is disturbing. It had better add A LOT more than any other Runebound expansion ever did for that kind of price. Otherwise, I'll just wait until it's available somewhere at a discount price. Anyone see the demo at GenCon that could confirm more cards or anything?
