Craft path is easier, but the way games go, more often the craft path is taken. Even without the gnome.
I would say that 80-90% of games are taken down the craft path. Half of those are becasue someone has the gnome (or dwarf), the other half is just having more craft.

Craft seems to be more common to come by.
