The Researcher and Gate Bursts

The elder sign token and the gate opening are two separate events. So Kate would stop a gate but not the elder sign going bye bye.

Two separate events but one is contingent on the other. You don't remove a seal without a gate burst and you don't have a gate burst if a gate doesn't open. If the gate is stopped by Kate then no need for an elder sign removal.

True a gate wont open if there is a Elder Sign and/or Kate at a unstable location in Arkham.

But a Gate Burst removes the Elder Sigh end sentence then a gate opens!

Kate's Science ability mentions nothing about Elder Signs.

It's not Gate Open then remove Elder Sign if it was the Kate's Science would stop it.

Kate doesn't mention Gate bursts because she was published before gate bursts were introduced. Kate basically stops Step 1 Mythos activity - which is 1) Open Gate and Spawn Monster (page 9 of the AH rulebook). Dunwich adds the Gate Burst without alterting these steps. If she stops the Mythois activity up to this point at her current location, then the gate bursts would be stopped as well.

Regardless, this has been an open issue for a very long time. I constantly remind Kevin Wilson of it and we all await his final answer.

...so why do you think her ability would be useless if we assume that Other World areas aren't locations?

Not sure if you have a translated version or not. But the English copy I have says this:

Psychic Sensitivity

No problem - I made a data base of investigators on my own and I know how much work it is, and it would be stupid not to make use of copying & pasting.

My current theory is that location usually refers to round spaces in Arkham, unless it's someone's location or same location, in which case it can refer to any space on the board. I think this works well with Kate and with the clarification for trading in the FAQ.

Right, and I checked Vincent Lee and Carolyn Fern and they also use the "his/her location" for their special ability. They should not be precluded from helping others if they are on the same OW space. Likewise, Kate uses the terminology "her location." like these two.

True Kate doesn't mention Gate Burst.

Her ability stops a Gate from opening on her location.

A Gate Burst removes the Elder Sign. Then a Gate opens.

So if Kate was at a location with a Elder Sign when a Gate Burst was drawn for here location the sign would be removed but no Gate.
