Don't you go giving people dangerous ideas! 'Cuz, man, you don't want people riding that train to the end of the line...

Heck, you can do some pretty strange stuff just with skill and health settings:

Start adding custom cards to something like that ... I'm losing Sanity just thinking about it.

I downloaded the last version of SE right now, but didn't find a way to create characters with adjustabale Stamina/Sanity rating. Is this option still under development?

I also noticed that the focus' bonus for unskilled characters was removed.

The capability is available as an extension that can be downloaded from the plug-in page. It makes a better extension than it does a standard feature, as it makes you think a bit more about whether this is the right design direction. It's probably best that variable health designs be kept fairly rare, to keep the feature special. (It also happens to makes a good example for those who want to write their own plug-ins.)

Yep. This change has been planned almost since the beginning (I never found the rationale for the bonuses to be convincing) but it has taken some time to allow an elegant transition. There has been some discussion of this change on the SE thread, and it is referred to in section 1, question 2 of the FAQ.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi! I love your work. Nice to see you here.

If I could make just one comment, it would be that you may have underplayed the evil scintist's evil powers of scince. Perhaps the following special ability would help:

"Evil Scince
Instead of having an encounter in the Graveyard, peter may take as many monster trophies from the monster cup as he likes for his evil scince. He can do this because he is awesome and mean."

This would also go some way towards fixing the slight imbalance problem with peter as he stands.

"The King in Yellow Pages" are just Hilarious. That's a damn funny idea

Here's a card I just thought of without any good reason:

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
where flap the tatters of the King,
must die unheard
in dim Carcosa.

I like the earring. It would be cool if you mad eup an investigator that started with it XD

Here's some gibberish I put together

I couldn't find a good smuggler pic so I went with the comedy He's a bit unbalanced anyway
I like the Seeker, though she's unbalanced. At least I didn't start her with Astral Travel and/or Find Gate.

just one little addition, his special ability check gets a -1 modifier for every additional spell cast in that round.

Long-time lurker, first time poster. Here are a few we've used several times. Your mileage may vary.

Willis is a bit over-specialized, but works fairly well.

My personal favorite. Phillip had a good run as Deputy of Arkham, straitjacket, axe and all...

THE STARS ARE RIGHT!!!

Gotta have this distinguished gentleman.

The other Pickman's Model.

And the Good Witch of the Witch House.

Feedback is appreciated.

Best regards,

And a few more...

The Shaman

The Shadow (who is a bit over the top, but a lot of fun to play)

And from Darke's Carnival...

The Fortune Teller

The Carny

The Clown

As always, feedback appreciated.
Enjoy!

Here's my second attempt at an investigator. He came about from a discussion about an undead investigator; the original idea was to give him no injury and no madness, but make any investigator that shared a space with him lose sanity. This lead to the idea of making The Nameless One from Planescape: Torment as an investigator, as that ability is one of TNO's main abilities. I also wanted to emulate his ability to change his class- and thus, his abilities- at will, and I noticed that the three bars corresponded well to the classes of Thief/Fighter/Mage. Of course, with this much power, there had to be a nasty drawback, and luckily, I was able to pick one that fit well with PS:T...

Rapid regeneration seems a bit unclear. Does he retain all of his clues and items as if he had chosen to take a injury/madness card instead of going to the hospital as normal and losing half of all of his items and clues?

He keeps everything. It's like taking a madness/injury card, except you don't take the card.

Note that he can still take injury/madness cards in other ways, just not from san/sta hitting 0.

Here's a new one I made last night. Commets are welcome.

Design comments:
I wanted to create a caster, but had a hard time coming up with a theme for one. I finally decided on a Druid.

Taking a page from D&D, I wanted my Druid character to operate in two major "modes"- a high-lore caster in one mode, and a fighter in the other. Naturally, I wanted to make sure that there was a drawback to each "operating mode"- as a caster, she's got virtually no natural fighting ability and low stamina, while as an animal, her lack of weapon useage and impaired spell casting should prove to be a hamper.

The first version saw her ability interacting with Summon the Beast Within, which she started with; however, I had a hard time balancing this, as giving her a drawback to being in beast mode when it was in her starting equipment seemed a bit unfair. In the end, I gave her an ability that does something roughly similar but isn't equipment dependant, and gave her Shrivelling for her starting spell.

Besides that it's an elf (I hate them with irrational fervor), the abillity seems balanced.

lurking - finally decided to post.

I like this one. Aesthetically it might be nicer if you create a separate investigator card called Transform into Animal Form and describe the effect details there, while Aerona's ability is that she may either refresh/exhaust that card.
