Don't see a talisman q&a section on the new forum so thought i would post one.
Got a couple of issues from playing a recent game, couldn't find an answer in q&a 1.3 or a quick search of the old forum.
Q1. Can the monk cast psyionic blast or is he just stuck with the spell seem as he doesn't really require its use?
Q2.Can invisibility be cast during a battle on the crown of command to avoid an encounter with the other player even if it is your turn to attack?
Q3. Do you only have to pay the mercenary once in order to gain his benefit whilst encountering a number of pitfiend in a single turn or do you have to pay him for every fiend you fight?

I'm positive that I read recently that the answer to Q3 is that you only have to pay the mercenary once per turn, and I think his card refers to paying him for the turn in which you wish to use him, not the battle. I tried to find the source of that feedback but was not successful.
Q1 is especially interesting to me, and I'm interested in reading the answer myself.

Answers, to my knowledge
Q1. Yes, he may use it INSTEAD of his natural ability, not on top of.
Q2. I don't think there is anything really stopping you, but I can't see a benefit to this? What do you gain by doing nothing in your turn except give your opponent a free turn to attack?
Q3. You must pay the Mercenary for EACH COMBAT. Each of the Pit Fiends counts as a seperate combat, so it's 1 Gold/Fiend.
Those are my answers. We must now wait for Supreme Overlord Rett to issue final judgement!
Rett? Hehehe.

OHHHH Supreme Overlord I like the sound of that
It sounds even MORE powerful or higher up the food chain than ARCHIMAGE of Rules *nudges Elliott*
Psionic Blast for a Monk is iffy, it is sorta a wasted spell for the Monk to have, but he can use it to get rid of it. (in my humble opinion)
Invisibility on the Crown...sure, but I'm not sure why you would want too, but I'm guess there is someone out there with a reason for doing it. (in my humble opinion)
Pay the Merc, 1g for each battle, multiple fiends (in my humble opinion) equals multiple battles, the fiends arent really that tough though, but again, there might be reasons to do this.
Remember, these are my opinions, I'm by far the expert, I'm just very Opinionated

Thanks guys!
BTW Is Talismaisland still the official ruling in these matters?
The situation came about by the guy playing as the minstrel amazingly managing to find his way to the crown of command with a cumulative strength of 4! due to a high craft.Hence he really required the Mercenarys help in order to defeat the pitfiends, especially since there were 6 of them, lol!
We put it to the vote in house and due to the wording on the mercenary card decided to let him use the merc against all 6 fiends:-
"He will add 3 to your strenghth in combat per turn provided you pay him 1 gold coin"
We decided this meant he added 3 to his combat for the entire turn.
"You may only pay him once per turn"
We decided this meant you couldn't pay him say 2 gold to add 6 strength but it could be interpreted in a different way.
As for the invisibility, once the minstrel was on the crown the sorceress soon caught up with him and battle commenced!
The minstrel was no match with his 4 strength but he did have the wand so i suppose he was just trying to bide some time in order to get a lucky break with the spells as engaging in combat would have been futile.

Rett: Oh no! I've created a monster! Maybe a new adventure card for the game?
Supreme Overlord Rett: Instead of your next turn, Supreme Overlord Rett imbues you with the ability to control the mind of another character. If you accept Rett's offer, during your next turn you may play as another other character on the board -- except those in the Inner Region -- using their turn and yours in the process. After your next turn, even if you did not accept Rett's offer, this card is PERMANENTLY discarded from the deck for the rest of the game.
Jenxstar: You know what? I've noticed noticed that it actually says per turn. I don't really know what to do with this, as it would seem to make him very powerful at the Pit Fiends, if not overly so. It almost seems to me as if they meant to say may only be used for one Combat, and you make not pay him more than once per turn. It seems an odd thing to add "cannot be used more than once per turn", as it seems common sense that if you only have ONE mercenary you could not possibly stack his strength bonus by paying him more gold...
We can't even ask for an official clarification...

Q1. Can the monk cast psionic blast or is he just stuck with the spell seem as he doesn't really require its use?
Yes, but he may not use it in conjunction with his special ability.
Q2. Can invisibility be cast during a battle on the crown of command to avoid an encounter with the other player even if it is your turn to attack?
No, it may only be cast when another Character attacks the bearer of the Invisibility Spell.
Q3. Do you only have to pay the mercenary once in order to gain his benefit whilst encountering a number of pit fiend in a single turn or do you have to pay him for every fiend you fight?
Yes, when a Character pays the Mercenary he helps them for the whole turn.

Hey Elliott, your answer confuses me.... So you DO Pay 1 Gold per ROUND of combat (IE Fiends would be several gold)
OR
You pay 1 Gold per TURN no matter how many rounds of combat are in that turn? (IE Fiends would only be 1G)
Thanks!

RETT: Elliotts answer reads to me as:-
You pay the merc and gain his bonus against all fiends encountered that turn i.e until defeated. Then you would have to pay him again the following turn in order to continue using the bonus against the remaining fiends.

I agree with you on this Jenxstar, I just wish those bloody brits would speak ENGLISH
I.E. 4 Fiends = 1 Gold to the Merc (unless for whatever reason you LOSE then the next turn the remaining fiends would be an additional Gold to the Merc)

Monk. If the monks powers were identical to the spell I would say he cant gain the extra benifits.
Being the Monks powers Differ from the spell( whatever the monks power are these days) I would say go ahead and stack the spell on top. Its only a 1-shot deal anyway.
Mercenary; Pay a gold, lasts for your whole turn. Regardless of how many combats you enter. This may come up again, if there is ever a card or character who recieves a "Bonus" turn for some reason. i would assume you would then pay him, per "turn" much like the spell that gives you 3 turns.
Invisibility. If you are that screwed in the fight at the crown of command where you need to cast it, i personaly would just leave! Go out heal and get stronger.

The most unlogical space…
What happens if I encounter another character in the Cursed Glade???
As I understand the rules I can use all my stuff and the player already standing there can’t use his stuff…

I would say you both may use your items, as the encounter should only last their turn, and in character to character combat you do not include special space rules.

The Cursed Glade states: "As long as you are here...". That clearly means until u leave the space.
The next player coming there and wishing to attack the first player should ignore all instructions of that space...
Any official ruling???

Not official, but it seems to parallel with the Desert space rules, whereupon you lose a life FIRST, then encounter anything else on the space. Hence, instructions for the space take precedence, both characters should be denied use of items.

It's just a small point to raise, but please note that unless a particular rule clarification is made in a FAQ or Rules document produced by FFG which can be quoted directly, then it should be considered as "learned opinion" rather than the official line.
There has always been some contention with spaces such as the Cursed Glade, Chapel and Graveyard where it is thought by some that they should not be subject to the standard "Space or Character" encounter, but rather that these should be exceptions.
As GJJ mentions, the revised Desert does address this problem, but it will have to be seen in which direction FFG will be taking this.

At present, if a Character encounters another Character on the Cursed Glade they do not follow the instructions on the Space (this is according to the Black Industries rule set). So as Jon said, we will have to wait and see which direction FFG will address this issue.

Unfortuately in the desert you do not lose a life 1st, and then encounter anything else. As has been drummed into my skull countless times, and its hard for me to get through my thick skull.
GOLDEN RULE: 'You EITHER encounter the SPACE or a CHARACTER'
From my understanding (not that I agree with the ruling personally)
Wizard is on the Desert, Troll lands on the desert with the Wizard, Troll can do 1 of 2 things, either encounter the character, or encounter the space (whatever cards are faceup, or draw a card)
Now I have also been advised while playing with Talismanamsilat on a world game 'That you can not lose 2 lives while in the desert' That being said:
**The Troll is NOT in possession of the Holy Grail Nor a Water Bottle for these examples**
The Troll attacks the Wizard, and the Troll LOSES, Troll loses 1 life - End of Turn
(My question is, what if the Wizard decides to take an Item or Gold, and not a life from the Troll, does the Troll lose an Item to the Wizard, and *THEN* Lose a life to the desert?)
The Troll attacks the Wizard, and WINS, the Troll doesnt lose a life to the Wizard through combat, HOWEVER he does lose a life to the desert.
If the Troll encounters the Space (draws an adventure card lets say) and its an Item, the Troll can take the item, HOWEVER the Troll loses a life to the desert.
If the Troll encounters the Space (draws an adventure card lets say) and its an Enemy, the Troll fights the enemy and LOSES - End of Turn
If the Troll encounters the Space (draws an adventure card lets say) and its an Enemy, the Troll fights the enemy and WINS he keeps the Enemy as a 'Trophy' towards Strength or Craft, HOWEVER the Troll loses a life to the desert.
Now is this about as clear as MUD? yea, I thought so. Try to explain this reasoning to any player during a game, and OH remember the Golden Rule "'You EITHER encounter the SPACE or a CHARACTER' so if you EITHER encounter the Space or the Character, how can you possibly win a combat, but lose a life to the desert?!?!?!
Ahh the answer is 'Because the Desert is a special place' (ahhh WHAT?!?!?!!?)
*HOUSE RULE TIME ! !* IF you land in the Desert *NO MATTER WHAT LOSE 1 LIFE* (Unless equiped with a Water Bottle or Holy Grail). So with this house rule, you CAN lose 2 lives in the Desert.
This also goes hand in hand with another house rule 'Evils *ALWAYS* Lose a Life in the Chapel, Goodies *ALWAYS* lose a Life in the Graveyard*
Sorry Petpieve subject, and it was a %&( day at work and I needed to Vent!

So basicly, when you land on ANY space that has a character, put a white piece of paper over the space you on, so you cant see anything on that space other than the two characters.
Now, ask yourself, do I wish to engauge this character? If the answer is yes, attack!.
If the answer is no, remove the paper and obey whatever is down there. Text, cards etc.
Ok there. I think I got it.
Now for the little fuzzy grey area.
If the THIEF, SORCERESS, or MINSTREL, use there speciacl ability against the character that is there, can they still proceed to the board, or is that considred encountering the character and they do not encounter the board?
Example, any of the 3 above, and on a character in the desert, and use their ability on a character that was there. Do they loose a life to the desert?
One extra quirky question. Can you cast "Hex" on the cursed glade?
