In His Own Words:

I was born in Pittsburgh, PA, but now live in Los Angeles, CA. I have been a high-school math teacher for the past twenty-two years in the Los Angeles Unified School District, and I am known as “mathlete” in the A Game of Thrones community where I am a huge advocate for Joust over Melee. I love sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Pirates, and gaming, particularly playing board games and card games. Over the years I have played Magic: The Gathering, 7th Sea, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (where I was also a World Champion), Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game, Netrunner, and A Game of Thrones. A Game of Thrones is my favorite card game.

On the 2012 World Championship Finals:

The finals was a re-match of my match against Erick Butzlaff from the preliminary rounds. Nothing against Erick, but this was my easiest game all day. I had a great start and lots of control. I drew great cards, and Erick was behind the whole game. Waste Their Time (Queen of Dragons, 50), Confession (Kings of the Storm, 39), and Aegon’s Hill (The Tower of the Hand, 54) wrecked his hand, which I could view every turn. There were no surprises, but I did get some fortunate turns. I do feel like I made Erick play my game with Viserion and a Sellsword Deserter (Chasing Dragons, 56). Erick tried his best and never gave up, and I respect his game play and tenacity.

In the end, I won my second World Champion title. I was nice to win a second. This one means much more that the first one that I won seven years ago. It means that this old man can still play this game…I really thought that I was washed up.
