2012 A Game of Thrones: The Card Game World Melee Champion
…To my brother-in-arms, Arthur Lannister.
Who is Mathieu Hosatte?
An active player since 2004, Mathieu Hosatte took a one-year break from A Game of Thrones: The Card Game after it transitioned to its Living Card Game format. Since his return, he has been a force upon the European tournament scene, claiming top honors in several French tournaments, including the 2012 French National Championship. That victory earned him a flight to Roseville, MN for the first ever FFG World Championship Weekend, where Mathieu continued to impress by winning the World Melee Championship with his Tagaryen Dragon deck.
In His Own Words:
Born in France, I studied at Lille and Lyon, but I never finished my degree. I have worked with children in summer camps, and am currently living in New Delhi with my girlfriend and a group of close friends, who all met in one way or another by playing A Game of Thrones. We have recently opened a French food restaurant together.
I have played board games, card games, and video games since I learned to read. I know how to play a wide range of card games, and I profit by translating the experience from one to another. My favorite factions in A Game of Thrones are Targaryen and Baratheon because, in Jousts, I find they are the best Houses with which to take advantage of Power challenges. Also, these two factions allow me to play every style of gameplay.
Preparing for Tournaments:
I play every day with friends, at least one game per day. I try to build original decks, and I test every match-up. Then, I build another deck, and I do the same. And again. I choose my tournament deck at the last moment, sometimes taking one of my friends’ decks we've found to be more powerful.
The 2012 French National Championship:
During the 2012 French National Championship, Mathieu narrowly missed the final tables of both the Joust and Melee, but he won the Overall title due to his balance and ability to stay among the top participants in both tournaments. He took third in the Joust and seventh in the Melee.
