About The Order of the Silver Twilight

Knowledge above one’s rank is punishable by death.
- Maxim of the Order

In any society there are those in pursuit of power for its own sake and at any cost. Hidden behind a veil of mundane, human-level power - a surface of politics and economics - lies a demimonde of shadows and conspiracy, an unplumbed depth of cosmic power and forbidden knowledge. This hidden world lies within the inner sanctum of the Order of the Silver Twilight. The Order's only ally is power, its only enemy, anything that stands in its way.

The Order of the Silver Twilight is the second deluxe expansion for Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game, featuring 165 cards - three copies each of 55 unique cards - new to the LCG® card pool that add deckbuilding opportunities and strategic depth to your game.

The Order of the Silver Twilight is unique among Call of Cthulhu expansions in that it introduces an entirely new faction to the Call of Cthulhu metagame. Of the 55 unique cards in this expansion, 40 are for the Silver Twilight faction, plus 2 for each established faction, and 1 neutral card. The initiates and magi of the Silver Twilight Lodge are, on the surface, socialites, businessmen and politicians, but underneath are students of arcane and esoteric magic. This devotion to the trans-dimensional power of magic is reflected in the Order's unique Ritual Support cards, based on patience and sacrifice, as well as their subtle and tricky Events and card abilities that manipulate hands and icons.

A New Order

With the introduction of The Order of the Silver Twilight, the number of factions for the Call of Cthulhu LCG® increases to eight, adding more possible deck combinations to an already rich deckbuilding environment. Much of the interest, replayability, and thematic potential of Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game's deckbuilding lies in the variety of combinations that arise from mixing different factions together. Each faction has its own strong suits and finding the complementary strengths in each combination of factions that fits your play style is part of the fun of Call of Cthulhu.

In your Call of Cthulhu deck, the Order of the Silver Twilight can add new scope and capabilities in partnership with one of the established factions. The Order of the Silver Twilight's versatile abilities can easily fit into a variety of play styles and decks. Mixing Silver Twilight with Agency or Cthulhu for extra destruction, or with Hastur or Syndicate for control and manipulation, are just some of the possibilities that await when The Order of the Silver Twilight is introduced into the metagame.

Those players wishing to incorporate Order of the Silver Twilight into their game will have enough cards included in the Order of the Silver Twilight expansion to be able to build an entirely Silver Twilight deck, right out of the box. In addition, all future Call of Cthulhu LCG® expansion cycles will include cards for the Order of the Silver Twilight.

Spells and Rituals

One of the core strengths of the Order of the Silver Twilight is its Rituals. Ritual is a subtype of attachment and event cards that plays into the Order of the Silver Twilight's theme of sacrifices. As there are many levels of initiation within the Order, naturally, the lower ranks of the Order are often used to fuel the machinations of those higher up, even through their sacrifice.

In the example of Ritual of Summoning, a character can be sacrificed by the player controlling Ritual of Summoning to place a success token on the card. During any action window, the player controlling Ritual of Summoning can discard five success tokens and put a character into play from his hand. The cost may be high, but the benefits show in the surprise attacks brought out during the story phase, or in the exchange of expendable characters for more valuable characters. Given the right mix of cards, you might be able to take control of your opponent's characters and sacrifice them to your dark designs. Moreover, there are many effects within the Silver Twilight that trigger off of characters merely leaving play, for example, being wounded in Combat struggles, that mean that even taking a setback like losing a character can turn into a benefit later on.

Characters are not the only thing that can be sacrificed to the Order of the Silver Twilight. Discarding cards from your hand can now be used to reduce costs or power other effects, through cards like Sigil of the Order or Lodge Librarian. As the Order of the Silver Twilight is a cabal of magicians who always have a trick up their sleeve, even when cornered, there are also effects that trigger off of having zero cards in hand, so even in the most desperate straits, the Order can come back strong.

Another factor of the Order of the Silver Twilight is its ability to have, or cause, fluidity on the board through a variety of cards like Lodge Housekeeper or Knight of the Outer Void that remove cards from play and return them to their owners' hands. An unfortunate opponent of the Order will have to try and cope with a board that changes at a moment's notice, challenging even the most experienced player!

Through The Order of the Silver Twilight you will be able join the ranks of this most arcane Order and begin your quest for ultimate power in Call of Cthulhu. With The Order of the Silver Twilight expansion, you can join the conspiracy and claim your position among the secret rulers of the world!
