Announcing the Assault on Ulthuan expansion for Warhammer: Invasion
Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game | Published 15 December 2009

Malekith's prowess is as legendary as his ultimate betrayal, but the Phoenix King and his followers will do everything in their power to oppose the vile and destructive Dark Elves.

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce an upcoming expansion for Warhammer: Invasion: The Card Game, Assault on Ulthuan! This deluxe expansion brings two new factions to the forefront of the war for the Old World.

The Assault on Ulthuan expansion explores the bitter enmity between the Dark Elves and the High Elves. The Dark Elves are a cruel race who excel at taking prisoners, sacrificing them, and inflicting vast amounts of pain on enemy units through hit point reduction. This treacherous faction seeks to enslave the other races of the Warhammer world. The High Elves are a proud, powerful race who rely on card denial, cancellation, healing, and ranged attacks. They work to heal damage to the world and unlock the ancient mysteries of the arcane. Both will raise mighty kingdoms and venture out on perilous quests as they seek the power to stand victorious. Can either faction rise to dominance over the other, or will they both succumb to another foe altogether?

Assault on Ulthuan contains two core starter decks of forty cards, as well as two capital boards for the Dark Elves and High Elves. Players of the existing factions will find plenty to aid them as well; new cards for the other four factions, plus a handful of neutrals, bring a host of new strategies, tactics, and deck-building options for each of the six races in the game.

The war for supremacy over the Old World has already seen bloodshed and suffering beyond imagination... but this was only the beginning. This spring, two new forces join the invasion!

Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game is a card game by Eric M. Lang in which 2 players develop their kingdoms and lay waste to their foes. Each side is comprised of either the forces of Order or the forces of Destruction as they seek to extend their empire to include the entire Old World. The Living Card Game format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Battle Pack expansions to the core game.

Cool, can't wait.

I was hoping for rules to accomodate 3 or 4 player games.  Maybe as a free download?  Although I guess we need more tokens.  Was hoping for that form this expansion.  I wonder how many cards in total in this set.

I'd also love to see more deluxe expansions featuring other factions. Instead of including cards for the "core 4" you could do a deluxe with just cards for 2 factions (which would keep it still playable as a stand-alone set.)  Lots to tap into still.  Bretonnians, Wood Elves, Ogre Kingdoms, Lizardmen, Vampire Counts, Tomb Kings and Beasts of Chaos.

I guess we'll find out when the next card cycle is announced if they plan on doing the rest of the races as neutrals (like the Skaven) or as stand-alone factions.

I cannot wait for this. Ever since playing my first game of invasion I wished that there was a way to erase the existence of Yugioh, Pokemon, Magic, and WoW card games. This game should be the only card game played...well this and FFG's other wonderful LCGs *smiles*.

Spring is going to make me broke. God of War 3, Super Street Fighter 4, Blazblue 2, Dante's Inferno and now this lol.

I think they are marketing this game perfectly. Having to buy three boxes means you are not good at hyping this game at your store. I bought 3 boxes of everything just to be sure I get it all. But at the store people are trading and finding ways to avoid the money sinks that I don't mind.

Try to convince friends to put in a combined purchase.

My ONLY complaint about the game is the card quality, but I figured they would have "meh" quality so I bought sleeves for them when I purchased the decks.

FFG is it possible to make the next set of 6 packs have the quality of the starcraft board game cards rather than the descent quality?

Awesome! I hope there will be more large expansions like this in the future. Anyone notice that there are two entries for this on the upcoming page? One is virtually blank, the other has all the regular info. Spring seems awfully far, considering it's technically not even winter yet.

Awesome. I'm glad to see they're also doing these sort of "core expansions" in addition to the monthly battle packs. It gives hope that we might get even more factions playable on their own.

Pixelgeek:

What other card game of this type has that sort of purchasing availability? Would that even be economically feasible?

I am sure the cards will be around for purchase through secondary sources. I have seen advertised the individual cards from the core set in this manner.

Would love to see the cards available individually. I don't want to have to buy three core sets to get all the cards again.

This looks really cool.  Hate to have to wait for Spring.
