| The Comet of Sigmar Has Been Sighted! A video introduction to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay |
| Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay | Published 06 November 2009 | Rating | 44 votes |
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is a roleplaying game that sets unlikely heroes on the road to perilous adventure, in the grim setting of Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy world. Players will venture into the dark corners of the Empire, guided by luck and Fate, and challenge the threats that others cannot or will not face.
I´m right with your 'try it out' concept siddy. But for me it looks like catching the mmo-Hybrid-train. though this may be not a wrong step, i find d&d 4 right amusing. and with all this new dices and shiny colourfull cards you could get rid of all this lame pdf thievery aint ya FF?! ;-)
it is just for my opinion to much board and less roleplay game. i like easy play systems where you can concentrate your effords on the role acting and not the dice collecting. but it should have a kind of depth to play even the wickeds bastards your should normaly imagine in a dark world such as warhammer. i found it a pitty that there was a slumm door shut behind the second line of wfrp. it was an easy system with lots of backround for devoling your own campaigns. lets just hope that the developers remebers there early day, as stated in the video, and put enough creative freedom to the side of the master, to make even a new version of Warhammer as deep as the other editions. as long as i could dive deep into a RPG expirience i even use new dices and shiny colourfull cards ;-)
Most agreed, Siddy!
Dry hump? Really? Not necessary. Childish.
Let's not ridicule people for being excited about a game. That just doesn't make sense.
Likewise, we shouldn't ridicule others for strong negative feelings about the game. Warhammer has a long history and a loyal following. Their attachment and devotion to the game is honorable and deserves everyone's respect.
I would remind everyone, however, that no one really knows about this game. I suggest everyone keep an open mind and first "try the game" before cementing their opinions. I was lucky enough to get a demo copy and I can tell you, truthfully, the teasers we have been given do not do the game system justice. Not by a very long shot.
Educate yourself, experience the game at one of the demo events. If the game is your cup of tea or not to your liking, go your own way and do not thumb your nose at those who disagree with you.
I knew this new system has GW written all over to to try and be competitive with D&D 4th ed. Also to me this only overcomplicates the world or Role-playing. Boss battle? Those are the words of an MMO and lets not kid ourselves...this like D&D 4th ed is an attempt to draw in MMO players. So lets call it what it really is and that is "The MMO Players First "Roleplaying" game". If it looks like an MMO, talks like an MMO and plays like an MMO then its a MMO board game.
I will be passing on this. I have the complete library of 2nd ed books and don't look at buying another system of the same information that I already have. If I want to play a RPG in the Warhammer world I have 2nd Ed. If I want to play Warhammer in a MMO then I will play Online. So while there are those who find this exciting and has that new car smell. Me...not wishing to dish out 100 bucks for a caveman's MMO.
I just think the people who are so happy to dry hump the leg of FFG on this one need to continue and I really hope you get the most out of the game. But those same people have to stop trying to sell others on it if they don't want anything to do with it.
I made a promise to myself and others to stay away from FFG forums until rune wars. Reason being I was turning into an unofficial FFG monster. Anyways a friend told me to check this video out.
Jay this is exactly what was needed. Great video introduction. I can tell by the emotions in it that you guys truly love what you worked on. I hope you go far with this and that it got enough play tests. Sorry for my negative comments in the past. I helped to fuel this fire between players. I hope by the time I return for Rune Wars it has burned out.
Later guys. Back to exile I go.
I may Have Missed This and if I have I apologize, but was there a reason why the system was changed? And to answer the question of a starter game for new players ( wich to my experience was not necessary) there is a game called Heroquest that could have been used, I think it has been out of print for many years now. It was a boardgame but had a lot of flexability to it. And it did use the warhammer history. for me, everything I have read or heard about this version of warhammer has convinced me to not purchase it as I have most of the 2nd ed books I will be happy with that.
@keltheos, post #56
Don't take it to heart. Everyone is just excited. Emotions are running high. Everyone here is passionate about Warhammer and they are concerned. Things will work out in the end :)
Amazon.com lists the release date as November 30th. Is that correct??? Will this be the big ol' box I am hoping and waiting for under my Christmas tree this year?
You should read post 48. It 100% applies to you too (bashing the bashers is still nothing but bashing).
You know what? This "tastes great" / "less filling" nonsense I'm reading online is what's turning me off of the game. Watching gamers whine back and forth about a system that ISN'T EVEN RELEASED IN TOTAL yet is kinda sad, really.
I'll make sure I skip the comments after these news posts as well and wait until I read a copy of it to decide if it will suck or rock.
Sigh...
I have been sitting back and watching the this product for a few months now. Never have I posted here, but I have seen all the comments. I decided to stay out of this "fighting" going on.
I was waiting for a video preview. Thanks Jay and FFG. This was exactly what needed to be shown. I loved the fact that you stress all these components are merely tools and that the storytelling should be most important.
I never was a fan for articles or emails and forums. I think things can be misread or interpreted wrong without emotions or tone of voice. The audio previews are what help me decide if a product is worth buying.
Again thanks. I will be buying this product after watching this video.
I am really looking forward to seeing photos and video from the event and reading recaps and session reports from the Emperor's Decree, as well as hearing players' opinions and thoughts on the game and the demo.
I have created a special Emperor's Decree WFRP subforum where people can share their feedback and experiences from the event.
I'm sorry, I meant to ask:
Jay, is it OK if we talk about the system in detail after the demo event? I mean, can we post system mechanics and start rules discussions without disturbing the FFG launch?
I anticipate a fun time during the demo. Of course most of the people I'll be running for are people that I invited. That's around 20 people that I've played with in the past or play with currently. So, it's already a little biased toward a positive aspect.
I will promise this though: I'll report it like it happens. If people are happy, I will report it and post pictures of smiling people. If people do not enjoy it, I'll report that too - along with frowny pictures. I'll keep a running tally.
In fact, I may do just that:
"Smile if you had a great time, frown if you didn't. *click*"
Well said Xenoss.... but dead horse flogging is such a fun past time and a good cardio workout! : P
I do look forward to is some unbiased 3rd party reviews on this. At this point that is the only thing that could sway me from my decision to not dump any money on this product.
