Set in the grim world of Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy universe, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is a roleplaying game that sets unlikely heroes on the road to perilous adventure. Players will venture into the dark corners of the Empire, guided by luck and Fate, and challenge the threats that others cannot or will not face.
I have to say:
I'm just an old and grumpy GM.
I can't stand D&D because it's too focused on action and combat.
I really, really loved WFRP1, with all it's faults, mainly because of the dirty world and it's filthy, unscrupulous inhabitants.
And of course, the Enemy Within campaign, probably the best campaign ever made for any RPG.
I never liked WFRP2 as much because I felt disappointed when they had changed the world too much with the Storm of Chaos.
But I just love WFRP3! Why?
I feel at home again, in my filthy old world that I love so much!
And everything becomes so easy and visual with the new system.
For the first time, I feel that encounter mode isn't just a break from story mode, it's more of a part of it, because you get so much help from all the components to tell your story.
And most important of all: The Old World seems to be more like it used to be. I can set my campaigns before the Storm of Chaos, just like I want to.
No offense guys, but this is all flash and fluff. All of the "new rules" can be down with out all of this stuff to have to keep track of (cards, special dice, ect.).
I love the new artwork, but the 2nd edition was really good in it's format (one rule book). Now you have forced us to have to keep track of extra dice or counters things to clutter up the table (or have to quickly get off the table when someone spills a drink).
This is really dissapointing! I can't believe you took a game that worked so well and changed it to were now it is some gimmicky card and dice game. I expected this from Wizards, but not my beloved warhammer.
Thank you for at least putting 2nd pdfs on line, because I don't think we will be switching to this.
I agree with peacekeeper.
And about the 3rd Edition, it doesn't seem to be a new edition, but a whole new game in the same setting.
I'm eager to see how this system is going to work out. I always appreciate a unique take on role-playing mechanics (such as Deadlands). It's a shame about the end of 2nd Edition. I wasn't a player myself but I have several friends that enjoy it immensely. That's just how it goes with anything GW, though. The only games that GW will continue are ones that require you to constantly buy miniatures. I loved Blood Bowl and Necromunda but I knew they were never going to last. Blaming FFG for the downfall of 2nd Edition strikes me as very knee-jerk. They grabbed up what rights they could so that they could create games in the Warhammer universe that they specialize in (board games and LCGs). So far I think they've done a pretty bang up job with Rogue Trader and Chaos in the Old World.
I am looking forward to trying the new Warhammer before i say it is good for our group or not.
I have to say this FAQ is not worth posting to me as it does not tell us anything new. So far the greatest information we get is from the video from GenCon. So far everything else is a regurgitation of infomation from that video.
I hope that we do get some new infomation in the upcoming News releases.
The Way I see it
You know what, nevermind. Obviously people who are not happy with a new edition are not suppose to post on this site anymore.
You're LOSING the game you paid for? Wow. Is FFG gonna come to your house in the dark of night and burn down all your WFRP 2nd Ed rulebooks? I'm right there with you, man, that sucks.
And here I was thinking the roleplaying games were all about imagination. I own most of the supplements that were released for WFRP 2nd Ed and you know what? I don't think I need more. I've played with what I got for years and I still haven't explored even half the ideas those rulebooks give me. I could go on playing WFRP 2nd Ed for decades with what I've got. Hell, I could play for years based on the core rulebook alone. But I guess I'm weird and true roleplayers need a new supplement every two months or they'll "lose" the game they paid for.
I see WFRP 3rd Ed as a new take on the WH setting and system and I look forward to that. It will no doubt give me enough material I can use in my games, whether they're 2nd Ed or 3rd Ed. I don't see anything wrong with that tbh.
@ Claven and KRyzowski and the YAYsayers
You are pretty funny. You are all so protective and defensive over a system you havent even played yet, and we are all sad and grumpy cause we are losing a game we have played and paid for. Yes we can still play with the old rules, but you know what, that isnt the point.
The point is our game still had room to grow when it was aborted. FFG didnt even care enough to try to market a game they jumped at the chance to buy. I mean, thats pretty stupid.
But I digress, I will play 2E and I will enjoy it and you go and play 3E and you can enjoy that. But dont discount our opinions, our griping or our moaning and bitching, we have the right.
And this wasnt a FAQ it was a ad.
I have hope for 3rd ed but still ...
i feel sad to see 2nd ed die after such a short run with FF. When FFG got the WHFRPG liscense i was hoping that there would have been more material / adventures printed. The level of development that 3rd ed has shown so far makes me think that the material produced for 2 nd ed was just a stopgap untill 3rd ed could be more fully developed. It looks like FF's goal was always 3rd ed but if FF had said that from the beginning all of the 2nd ed fans would have rejected the idea without giving FF a chance. It seems like its time to buy up the rest of the 2nd ed materials before they are no more. ;(
Looking forward for more. I think that many of these questions are really important for all the fans. Know we know something more abut the core set, the cards that are included and abuot the end of line for 2nd edition.
The king 2nd is dead, long live the KING WFRP 3rd!
Wow, just as I was starting to come around to the idea of 3rd Edition, this FAQ completely unsold me again. That's an awful lot of pieces that I care very little for. I'd say that FFG had missed the point, but actually, I think they've made a whole new point and burnt the old one.
And the PDFs are only going to be available for a limited time? I can see a lot of people who want to get hold of 2nd Edition material resorting to piracy. :|
Well said Claven.
More Warhammer means more WAaaaaagh!!!
