Coming this Fall for A Game of Thrones: Princes of the Sun
A Game of Thrones LCG | Published 06 August 2009

Amidst the scorching deserts of the south lie the cities and palaces of Dorne. The sun-hardened people of this harsh realm have turned their serpentine gaze to the heart of Westeros. The burning desire to repay an unforgivable offense has brought the spies, warriors, and assassins of this sun-scorched empire to the brink of war.

Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce the Princes of the Sun expansion to A Game of Thrones: The Card Game. With this set, House Martell enters the AGoT LCG™ with a vengeance!

Containing 120 cards (two copies each of 60 different cards) and retailing at $24.95, this set is an essential foundation for anyone looking to play House Martell in the LCG™ environment. Infamous Martell characters like Prince Doran and Princess Arianne Martell, Areo Hotah, Ser Arys Oakheart, Darkstar, the Daynes of Sunspear, and the Red Viper himself are featured, along with the staple building block cards necessary to make the Martells a competitive option. Also included are a number of neutral, multi-house, and plot cards that can be utilized by any deck in the AGoT LCG™, including “When I Woke...,” “Former Champion,” and “A Pinch of Powder,” the cards designed by 2008 World Champion and 2008 Melee Champion Tzu-Mainn Chen and by 2008 Joust Champion Lucas Reed in honor of their accomplishments at last year’s GenCon World Championship tournament. (For a chance to design your own card, compete in the 2009 GenCon World Championship tournament.) The Princes of the Sun expansion also offers rules for an intriguing “Civil War” game variant, in which players compete for the limited resources of a single deck.

Additionally, if you really are “unbowed, unbent, unbroken” in your support of House Martell, Fantasy Flight Games presents the gorgeous “Viper’s Bite” House card. Draw attention to your AGoT LCG™ Martell deck with this gorgeously sculpted 3D resin House card, available separately as a stand-alone accessory for $19.95.

The Sun and Spear motif of House Martell is prominent on this highly-detailed and weighted resin House card.

This Fall, ride with the Red Viper out of the blazing sun of Dorne and enter the battle to control all of Westeros!

Based on George R.R. Martin's bestselling fantasy epic, A Song of Ice and Fire, A Game of Thrones: The Card Game brings the beloved heroes, villains, locations, and events of the world of Westeros to life through innovative game mechanics and the highly strategic game play. The Living Card Game™ format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Chapter Pack expansions to the core game.

budsky, maybe George Martin listens to Hammerfall as he made that house martells motto in the books and FFG used it for the headline because of that.

And with the recent sale of the "Bag of Cthulhu", it seems like something very plausible. Just offer a "Bag of Yog-Sothoth", or a "Bag of Miskatonic" . . . ;)

While resin domain cards for Call of Cthulhu would be cool, you'd need a bare minimum of three to really pull it off, which could be expensive. Allow me to offer an alternate idea:

Faction specific drain counters.

The Cthulhu statues are great if you play Cthulhu (and it is one of my favorite factions), but how awesome would it be to drain your Hastur resources with giant yellow signs, or your Syndicate resources with dollar sign embroidered pyramids?

Very awesome, that's how.

Wow, I'm very impressed by the responsiveness of FFG's marketing team and the house card designers. (Though the Greyjoy house card looks good, this looks like an item worthy of being a prize at a large tournament.)
