FFG announces the next expansion for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game |
| A Game of Thrones LCG | Published 17 February 2009 | Rating | 21 votes |
King’s Landing. It is the heart of the Seven Kingdoms, and the home of the Iron Throne. It is a city of lies, a city of treachery, a city of deceit. The shadows of King’s Landing hide secrets that influence and dictate the future of Westeros. This spring, those shadows come to the A Game of Thrones: The Card Game.
The King’s Landing expansion is a series of 6 monthly Chapter Packs for the A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, beginning with City of Secrets, releasing in May 2009, featuring the intrigues and secrets of capitol city of Westeros. There are a number of exciting focal points in this set, among them:
• The new “Shadows” crest, complete with its own play area.
• A cycle of linked “City” plot cards, which become more powerful the deeper into the city you go.
• The building blocks of a “tribal” Kingsguard deck that pushes challenge defense to an all new level, and a new “The White Book” agenda card.
• A feast of never-before-seen uniques, including Moon Boy, Storm Dancer, Jeyne Poole. Ser Dontos Hollard, Jon Arryn, and The Tower of the Hand.
• New versions of all the essential King’s Landing personalities, locations, and events, including Littlefinger, Varys, Qyburn, Robert Baratheon, Cersei Lannister, The Red Keep, and Tyrion’s Chain.
The intrigues and betrayals of King’s Landing come to the A Game of Thrones: The Card Game this spring. Until then, the shadows await...

I would keep 5KE around. CoA and TfR play so much better if the cards from the base set are still there. Think of event cards like "To be a dragon". In the LCG card pool there is exactly one plot that has the demanded trait. If then FFG would do another holiday sell with the 5KE boosters the players that were introduced to the game with LCG would have access to a flavourful big cardpool at a for them reasonable price.
MaxWax - The base question asked was since some people are still playing Standard as it was before the inception of LCG, if they should rotate out ITE this Summer (which is when it would have rotated out). I personally say absolutely. No reason to keep it around and keep metas divided by card pools by entire sets. Honestly I'd rotate out 5KE also. Since the Clash of Arms Chapter Packs are the supporting release for that base set, it seems silly to keep that short run when we could all finally be playing a fully OP supported format. Not to mention with the Core Set, CoA, TfR, and KL there should be plenty of cards available for everyone to make decks.
Standard does not exist anymore, so no rotation of ITE is necessary. Or Standard got frozen so ITE and 5K are the remaining Standard blocks.
I think ITE should rotate out of "standard" in august/september. Ya know after Gencon.
"• The new “Shadows” crest, complete with its own play area." reminds me somehow of a mechanic I read about in the VS. System.
I also wonder how the release will influence the "Standard" format which is still played. Will the ITE be rotated out in May?
It all sounds interesting. Wish they gave more information and some card examples too.
Please, check all the names spelling and check for typos on cards. :)
I'm excited, but on the one hand i'm getting kind of sick of a new Cersei or Robert every 6 months (as well as a new aemon and pycell in le4ss then 6 months).
Can't wait to see the new characters! Even though I'm mostly a Lanni/Bara player (hope its a King Robert), I hope to see "King's Landing" Versions of the Starks like Eddard/Sansa/Arya etc
It seems to be definetely interesting. However if i read about things like shadow crest, i somehow wish that they would first enhance the original 4 crests which can only be rarely found in the LCG enviroment.
And yeah, that Cersei art is amazing. And it was online for several weeks.
Ermmm.... May? Wait a minute.... are we missing something in the ensuing months? I thought the last of the Raven's Chapter Packs will be released next month.
Still, that Cersei art looks great (at least, that better be who that is) and the pack mock-up looks fantastic as well.
Interesting. City Plots might these be similar to the way the Others plots worked back in Winter? The Shadow crest and a separate play area? This will be interesting to learn about. I can't wait until May to find out how all this stuff is going to work.
Oh, and Jon Arryn? Sweet! New version of Littlefinger and Varys in the LCG I'm looking forward to that.
