Announcing the first Dwarrowdelf Adventure Pack for The Lord of the Rings |
| The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game | Published 10 October 2011 | Rating | 34 votes |

“Tonight we shall be on our way high up toward the Redhorn Gate. We may well be seen by watchers on that narrow path, and waylaid by some evil; but the weather may prove a more deadly enemy than any.”
–Gandalf, The Fellowship of the Ring
Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce the upcoming release of The Redhorn Gate, the first thrilling Adventure Pack in the Dwarrowdelf cycle for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game! With 60 new cards, including three copies of each player card, The Redhorn Gate starts players on the path to high adventure.
When some of Middle-earth’s greatest heroes volunteer to escort Arwen Undómiel (The Redhorn Gate, 14) to Rivendell, their voyage through The Redhorn Gate becomes the start of an epic new journey that will take them through bone-chilling snowstorms, hordes of enemies, and into the twists and turns of the entire Dwarrowdelf cycle.
The snows of Caradhras
Drawing from the encounter sets in Khazad-dûm, The Redhorn Gate presents players with exciting new challenges as the heroes’ escort mission turns into a quest like none before it. Snowstorms rage throughout the mountain passes, making travel difficult and crippling your fellowship’s progress. The combination of slick, treacherous mountain passes and the freezing cold may cause even the most stalwart heroes to consider turning back. Meanwhile, fearsome predators stalk the pass, ready to take advantage of any moment’s weakness.
Caradhras (The Redhorn Gate, 15), especially, provides Arwen and her companions a bitter, soul-crushing welcome. While they’ll want to traverse the mountain as quickly as possible, your heroes can travel to Caradhras only by quest card effects. This means that though the mountain looms ahead of them in the staging area, your heroes can’t choose to travel to it and eliminate its three threat. Finally, once the heroes are able to set foot upon the mountain, making Caradhras the active location, they enter a stretch of mountain pass even more difficult than that behind them.
Can your heroes quest successfully each turn even while each character suffers -1 Willpower? In order to complete their journey through The Redhorn Gate, they must.
Secret ways through the mountains
The Redhorn Gate may be full of challenges, but heroes exploring its crevasses may find imaginative new ways to slip past the dangers of the Misty Mountains. The Redhorn Gate introduces a new hero and the new Secrecy keyword, which provides players with added incentive to keep their threat very low and is certain to spur new deck-building archetypes. Players will also find new allies, attachments, and events for all four spheres of influence.
Prepare for an epic journey through The Redhorn Gate when this Adventure Pack releases in the first quarter of 2012!
Note: A copy of The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game Core Set and the Khazad-dûm Expansion are required to play the scenario included in this Adventure Pack.
The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game is a cooperative card game that puts 1-2 players (or up to four with an additional Core Set) in control of the most powerful characters and artifacts of Middle-earth. Players will select heroes, gather allies, acquire artifacts, and coordinate their efforts to face Middle-earth’s most dangerous fiends. The Living Card Game format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Adventure Pack expansions to the core game.
Looks awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on the KD expansion and then this AP! I just love how different all the quests are from eachother. Good job FFG! I don't really care about the difficulty of the quests as each has a nice twist and story. So give us some different levels from 2 to 7...that would be awesom!
Awesome cant wait. I love the encounter icon as well, never liked the old ones, always felt kinda cheap and seemed like they would start getting confusing down the line when one icon looked similar to another.
Sounds cool just only hope it will be interesting. Escort Arwen trough many dangerous... If this pack is difficully 4 it will be one more boring quest. Hope the game start to be more interesting on that moment.
Secrecy keyword? Sounds cool.
Sadly Caradhras poses no threat for Northern Tracker :-(
ooooh....I love the Caradhras card...can't wait!
@ ilgoga - Yes Arwen changes control to the current first player. Similar wording to Wilyador from Journey to Rhosgobel.
Excited at this new adventure. I cant wait until we start exploring the Mountains in the winter. I just wish we could have seen 1 hero. I guess Arwen will have to do for now.
I don't ever forsee Arwen being a Hero in the game. She was only ever in the Appendices anyways. We'll get an Ally version of her someday surely.
Love the artwork, including the box art. I'm intrigued by the Secrecy keyword. Hard to believe it is October already, time is just flying by.
@HilariousPete: Nice job spotting the extra numbers on the encounter deck cards!
Seems like they're tweaking the design to make it more player-friendly! I like this little change very much!
Yeah, the pictures are really nice.
Btw, I also like the idea of including card numbers for the encounter set (the 2/29 on Caradhras e.g.). It's a good idea, so you can notice it if you're missing an encounter card.
Aww, Arwen isn't a hero? On a side note, I've officially cancelled my WoW account to feed my LotR habit. It's not as tedious and it's $15/month either way, not counting the deluxe boxes. Unfortunetly, when the Star Wars LCG is released, I'll need to make a decision.
Cool! Does Arwen's controller change with the first player token?
