Will You Answer the Hero's Call? 46
Announcing an epic supplement for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay | Published 28 September 2011

Despite my reputation, I am not a heartless man. I often struggle to reconcile what must be done with my sympathies for those accursed by the taint of Chaos. The day I consigned my own sister to the flames was especially hard. She didn’t ask to be tainted… but tainted she was.

The Old World is a place of constant war, and the unending battles take their tolls. Still, there are those rare individuals who continually apply themselves to improving their talents and accomplishing their goals. They let nothing stand between them and their terms for success, no matter how mammoth the opposition may be. These few, exceptional individuals rise to become the Old World’s great powers, generals of armies, wizard lords, and arch lectors… Are you ready to answer the Hero’s Call?

Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce the upcoming release of Hero’s Call, an epic supplement for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay that takes your campaign to the peaks of power!

Hero’s Call provides your heroes with tremendous new ammunition to face the challenges before them: 12 new high-powered careers, 12 regional options for men and dwarfs from outside Reikland, two new player races, action cards for each new trait, and–for the first time ever–new spells and blessings for Ranks 4 and 5. It’s a good thing, too, that your characters will gain greater power than ever before because Hero’s Call also explores the daily challenges of the Old World’s greatest heroes, including the Epic Threats they must face.

Epic power

With new rules for characters of Rank 4 and 5, players will be able to attain power most mortals have never tasted–provided your characters can survive the challenges that await them.

At long last, wizards and priests can further their mystical mastery beyond Rank 3. As they make choices about which path to pursue in their profession at Rank 4, the powerful new spells and blessings they wield provide them fantastic new options in battles. As an example, Caress of Laniph, a Rank 4 spell for the Amethyst Order can deal as much as 6 + WP + Int damage, ignoring the soak value of your target’s armour, and allow you to recover 1 wound.

But players aren’t the only ones who will gain untold power in Hero’s Call! Powerful new adversaries lurk within the supplement’s pages, with notable adversaries such as Archaon the Everchosen presented with special rules and guidelines for inclusion in your campaign. Additionally, other powerful creatures await adventuring heroes, and Epic Threat sheets allow you to boost standard creatures into elite adversaries.

A new paradigm for epic adventures

The paradigm shifts for the high and mighty, and Hero’s Call presents several adventure seeds and features a complete adventure, The Art of Waaagh!, specially tailored to meet the interests of heroes who have seen it all.

Get ready to wield powers of which few within the Old World have ever dreamt. Get ready to brave dangers that only the greatest heroes can withstand. In the First Quarter of 2012, get ready to answer the Hero’s Call!

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is a roleplaying game that sets unlikely heroes on the road to perilous adventure, in the grim setting of Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy world. Players will venture into the dark corners of the Empire, guided by luck and Fate, and challenge the threats that others cannot or will not face.

Awesome this one has been a long time coming and finally it's approaching.

I like it, having the option for epic, doesn't mean making your campaign epic.

Creatures vault has dragons, but it's very unlikely I'll ever place a dragon for my PC's to fight, but having the option is good.

I run campaigns that end after 10-12 months, so not likely to ever see my players get to rank 4.

 @ Universal Head

totally second that. I am a 1st nerd and have (great) nightmares of gritty Ian Miller drawings. Fighting dragons... in the old world? You wish, you fool! Learn to survive a goblin attack first.

I rather would like to have more investigative plots than more and more combat. If you fancy stronger swords, more damage and dungeon crawls, why not play WOW?

That said I haven't seen the actual content.. It might be great though.

Amazing news, this is just what i have been hoping for...

Also lookin at that action card there is a challange and a bane symbol in the top right corner I wonder if rank 4 n 5 cards have some automatic results built in to be modifiyed by the result of ur die pool?

I'm sorry, but WFRP PCs that survive to 4th/5th level are "epic" heroes.  They are on par with the Grand Theogenist, Karl Franz, Gotrek and Felix, High King Thorgrim, and all the named characters you see in the Warhammer miniatures battles army books.  On that level, a single cult or band of enemies will not generally provide a sufficient challenge.  They are in the realm of needing to face "Empire-threatening" or even "world-threatening" challenges. They face armies, not bands of cultists. They face Dragons and Demons, not humans.  Look at the naming of the Slayer line. Troll->Giant->Dragon->Demon.

So, the challenges need to be monumental for the PCs.  Keep in mind that just because the term 'epic' is being used, does not mean it is necessarily "high fantasy".  It can still be gritty and dangerous.

Excellent, rounding out the backgrounds for other provinces presumably and hopefully high elfs and halflings added as races.

As others say, a campaign to go with this - though rather than "high level" my vote would be "epic spanning levels" campaign.

Would love to see an epic campaign to go with this release.  We've all the cards and the rules we need so lets get some Enemy Within style releases to get our teeth into.

I'm just finishing up The Gathering Storm and then I'm thinking about Witches Song or running an adjusted version the Doomstones campaign.

Holy hell...  This was out of the blue!

I am literally at half mast about this.  Awesome news!  And sounds bloody great too - can't wait to check out epic blessings and spells!

I hope you will keep up the creepy atmosphere and not going to much into epic. Besides my little Asur is waiting for ages for some race specific careers :'''( So if i'd play another race that news would just be great...

Thats the strength of serving Call of Cthulhu milk on Renaissance cereal in your favourite Fantasy can season to taste. The higher the heros rise, the greater their fall to one of the many masks of Nyarlatho- I mean ruinous powers.

I think the 40k rpg books show that FFG can do epic dark with both investigation and heroism.

Looking forward to 1012 for WFRP.

GREAT !!! Dark Fantasy and Epic Characters make a great combination for a legendary campaign. And VERY glad to hear that there are more products on the way. :-)

Well. I've been with this franchise since the 1st edition back in 80ies. I love it grim and dangerous feel. With death lurking around every corner. Every hero was weak at the beginning and could die easily but with every survived adventure party was stronger and stronger. And then - after awhile every party was looking for an epic adventure or an epic end to the adventurous life.

Now I will have that in my favourite edition so far :-)
