Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce that it has entered a comprehensive licensing partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd. for the worldwide rights to publish card, roleplaying, and miniatures games set in the popular Star Wars™ universe!

FFG’s first two Star Wars game lines will be the X-Wing miniatures game and Star Wars: The Card Game, both scheduled to launch in early 2012.

X-Wing is a tactical ship-to-ship combat game in which players take control of powerful Rebel X-wings and nimble Imperial TIE fighters, pitted against each other in fast-paced space combat. ..oh, and I hope they make the miniature game compatible with the RPG...like west end did. Brilliant system. Still play it to this day 20 years later.
It would be nice if they used the d6 system. Not going to happen I know. I just hope they don't butcher it like wizards did, or like how they(ffg) butchered warhammer fantasy rpg.
why fix something that was awesome to begin with.
I look forward to seeing what they will do with the RPG. Esspecially what they do with the high-end Dark Side powers like Force Storm and Transfer Essance. Not to mention the galaxy from the Great Hyperspace War to the Legacy Era.
i agree with darth hideous, but i think tha t "special dice" are not very appreciated, in fact i prefer normal RPG dice.

I hope you guys will make a great Star Wars RPG!
Things I hope to see:
• Special dice, cards and party mechanics (like in the new Warhammer RPG).
• All Force Powers should have its origin from the movies, books or comics (like the spells in Deciphers LOTR RPG). And let them work as they do in the original source – for instance “force lightning” stuns a person when hit by it – except if you parry it with your ligthsaber or (if you are Yoda) with your hand or dodge it (never seen that happen though :D). And it kills you slowly and painfully.
• Character powers are not necessarily balanced in a game term sense with regards to classes, races, skills, ect. But more “in touch” with the world (like the deadly spells in Mongooses Conan RPG).
• More “hard-core” rules less “flavour text” stories. For instance: How can you create a PC/NPC like General Grievous – what are the pros and cons? How does the Bothan spy network work in the game? Not just background stories about it. What happens when your arms and legs are cut off (and you are a force user)? Flying through asteroid fields, creating a base on Hoth, racing a pod race, how do you blow up the Death Star? How do you jam a signal? How do you live as a trader/smuggler? ect.
• Starting (level one?) Sith players NOT being able to cast force lightning or other similar stuff.
• A good explanation why it’s better to wield a single lightsaber with two hands (like a majority do) and not attack with your “choke powers” while in a lightsaber duel. J
I really hope you think outside the box and not just make a balanced “MMORG” RPG where we have our tank, controller and assassin characters but instead make a game that bring us, mentally, into a galaxy far far away.
I second therion, star wars saga edition is the fastest rpg system for star wars, it is even much faster than the SW d6. Even more, in saga edition can be designed any sort of hero, both light and dark (siths and droids included in the basic book). yet, the system requires some revisions, but in general is the best system i have ever played. (and i have played a lot of systems, SW d6 is too complicated with the force powers, and dice counting tends to become irksome, SW d20 is too systematic, and has too many force powers tables)
I really want to see support Darkside/Sith and Droids as playable characters in the RPG. Give me a party made up of sith, bounty hunters, and a masterless droid and I will buy your RPG and use my mindtricks to make others do the same
I seriously hope that the roleplay game is based around the Star Wars Saga D20, whilst the first versions were poor, the saga version was good. I've not seen what the suggested Dark Heracy plays like. I do like the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay though, so that might work with the Jedi 'raising force' to perform his/her Force Actions. Just tweak the dice from hammer symbols to rebal symbols and an empire symbol for failures etc.
Really hoping to see a Star Wars Minis clone that doesn't involve Star Ships. Going to avoid the TCG and the Star Ship Minis, unless they are amazing or something.
And of course I am really pumped for Star Wars RPG material. Please don't change it too much so I can keep my Jedi :3
A new RPG would be great and if you think of the of RPG combat combined with the miniature license, it's going to be a must-buy...
Since the one and ONLY reason I can think of to be excited about the license being picked up by FFG is for a new RPG...and hopefully a FAR better one than the horrible and doomed Wizard's d20 version. Star Wars is a fast-paced, swashbuckling adventure story of Good and Evil (and no grey to worry about). To fit that world, you need a fast and simple, yet flexable system that allows for all sorts of action and surprises. You need an intense space combat system, an adaptable Force system that takes actions into accord (selfish or selfless) and a character creation system that allows the player a lot of freedom to make their hero.
Note I said 'hero'. Star Wars is a story about heroes, not emo dark and grey smacktards that kill franchises (I'm looking at YOU TWO, Anakin and Revan!). You need to give a reason to BE a hero...and consequences for going the easy path to the Dark Side...
I'm personally only interested in a Roleplaying game, so I guess I'll have to wait. I definitely hope and pray that d20 will at last be left behind. Even the old WEG d6 system was far and away more versatile than d20. I think the system behind the WH 40K RPGs is even still a little "rigid" for the Star Wars universe, with Career Paths. I'd prefer something with no Career/Class mechanic at all. Heck, if they could GET d6 from whoever holds it, all my old Star Wars books would still be good. B-)
