The warmup tournaments

We will be hosting warmup tournaments for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game, and Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game.

Need a final practice session before the Championship? Contestants can participate in these low-pressure engagements before the main event. Test your deck one last time, find any weaknesses, and begin your journey to victory.

Head to the Gen Con website today and reserve your A Game of Thrones, Call of Cthulhu, and Warhammer: Invasion warmup tickets.

The Championship

What can Living Card Game enthusiasts hope to find at Fantasy Flight Games’ World Championship Tournaments? Honor? Perhaps. Glory? Yes, for those that can seize it. A fierce clash against the best LCG players in the world? Absolutely.

Prepare to test your mettle against a group of worthy competitors, fellow LCG enthusiasts who love the game as much as you do. But remember, at the end of the day, only one player will rise above the rest of the elite and stand in triumph.

Participants will face off in a tournament of multiple randomly-paired rounds (Melee) and a Swiss-style tournament (Joust) for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, and Swiss-style tournaments for Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game and Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game.

Each tournament’s culmination will result in a final table or a top tier with one player claiming the title of the Melee World Champion, the Joust World Champion, the Overall A Game of Thrones World Champion, the Call of Cthulhu World Champion, and the Warhammer: Invasion World Champion for 2011.

While the World Championships are a chance for casual players to meet new people, view different decks and strategies, and learn even more about the game, it is also a chance for these players to compete against past champions...and maybe even pull off an upset. For the more competitive players, this arena is the perfect venue to challenge themselves against the strongest players in the world, and play against the most refined and tested decks. Will all of your testing and practicing pay off? This is your moment to prove yourself!

Visit the Gen Con website and reserve your ticket for the ultimate battles in A Game of Thrones Joust, A Game of Thrones Melee, Call of Cthulhu, and Warhammer: Invasion.

The Prizes

While the prizes for the World Championship tournaments are exciting, this year Champions will also take home a one-of-a-kind handcrafted card box, individually customized to each Living Card Game.

The prizes for the 2011 World Championship events will include:

  • A trophy for the World Champion
  • A Design a Card experience for the World Champion
  • A Custom Card Box for the World Champion
  • Signed Uncut card sheets for the top four players
  • Worlds pins for the top ten players
  • Double-sided limited House/Domain/Capital cards for all participants
  • A playmat for the first player to be eliminated

Variant tournaments and preview events

Your weekend can be rounded out with these exciting and enjoyable variants to the Championship competitions.

A Game of Thrones Hand of the King Tournament
This unique variant tasks A Game of Thrones players with appointing one character as their Hand of the King. Your success in the tournament depends on this character’s fate. Not only must you claim power, you must also keep your Hand alive in order to win. Further information and the rules for the Hand of the King variant can be found on the A Game of Thrones support page.

Call of Cthulhu Ancient Relics Preview
We recently announced Ancient Relics, the latest expansion cycle for Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game. At this event players can preview the new Story Deck. The Story Deck features 10 brand new Story cards that introduce even more excitement and game-changing events into your Call of Cthulhu experience.

Warhammer: Invasion King of the Hill Tournament
Can you defeat your opponents and become the High King? In this variant for Warhammer: Invasion players vie to become King of the Hill. Competitors are placed in “Hot Seats” and must battle different contenders. If you are defeated you lose your place at the “Hot Seat” and another player begins the process. If you aren’t defeated after the time limit is up, you and the other top Kings will compete until one rises above the rest and claims victory!

Warhammer: Invasion Classic Tournament
This variant for Warhammer: Invasion charges you with declaring your loyalty. Players are only able to build their deck with cards from their chosen faction with no neutral cards, or out-of-faction cards. Is your chosen faction strong enough to prevail and conquer the Old World?

Yeah, they are. The champs get to design a custom card, a trophy and sweetest deck box I've ever seen.

Makes it almost worth the 1,000 mile trip-although I'd probably be more in the running for the playmat than for the grand prize.
