The Next Evolution 18
An important announcement about your favorite Living Card Game
Living Card Games | Published 06 April 2011

Since its inception, the innovative Living Card Game format has brought thousands of fans a welcome alternative to the traditional CCG model. Today, this exciting format evolves even further. Read on for updated FAQs for Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game, A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, and Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game. But first, here’s an important update from Senior LCG Designer Nate French:

Hello LCG Fans,

With an ever expanding structure like the LCG metagame, we are always on the lookout for cards that are hampering the game’s evolution. In the past, harsh measures such as errata and banning have been used by card companies to police their games, eliminating problem cards and opening up the way for new ideas to be explored.

It is one of our goals with the LCG format to keep the need for such heavy-handed measures to an absolute minimum, so that the cards we release have the longest tournament life possible. And yet, the need to do something is sometimes there.

To this end, we have developed the restricted list, which goes into effect today (and are included in each game’s FAQ, below). On the restricted list, you will find the cards that have been cramping tournament play and preventing the game from being as enjoyable as we all know it can be. Some of these cards are part of an overpowered combination, some have risen to the status of “auto-include” and are simply too pervasive in the environment, and some were printed to address a very specific situation that the game has since grown past.

When building a deck, a player may select one card from the restricted list to use in that deck, and he may not use any other cards from the restricted list in that same deck. A player may run as many copies of his chosen restricted card as the standard rules of the game (or card text) allow.

With this restricted list, we are better able to bring you a fun, healthy metagame, while keeping everyone’s beloved cards legal for tournament play for as long as possible. The need to ban a card may occasionally still arrive, but we feel that the restricted list will ensure that such instances are rare.

We look forward to seeing what you all do with the new environment this upcoming regional season.

about the warhammer invasion list:

i like the list very much. the most powerful factions like Empire, Dwarfes and Dark Elves got their butt kicked.

Now everyone must go back to the roots and build something new with the deck options. BIG THX FFG!!!

I've playin warhammer very often and feel like i'm having much knowledge about the current metagame but i don't know why wilhelm of the osterknacht and soulstealer are on this list.

Let's say i will trust you FFG on this one, since i dont know what will coming next.

I hope you support this restriction list and according to the future metagame i hope this list isn't set in stone ;-)

As I read the news title, I was hyped because I thought, that you can only include one copy of a restricted list card in your deck, then I read the whole thing and downloaded the CoC FAQ and realized that nothing has really changed.

That's very nice but if are talking about WHI list - i don't see on that list one of the most vicious card - Visit The Haunted City. With that list, if someone want to win tournament or even have a chance, he should play very fast orcs or Empire. The other fractions become very weak.

This is great. It simultaneously limits the auto-includes (boring) while bringing Pyromancer's Cache back into play (yay!).

Pyromancer's Cache is going straight into my Clansmen deck.

Yeah, that's right, I'm still trying to make a Clansmen deck.

This is really great!

However, it would be cool to have a printer-friendly agot version as well.

I love changement in AGOT game. I don't fear the come back of Pyromancer cause 90% of lanni players I think will play castellan instead. Anyway indeed Stark siege is the most nerfed. Martell have only to think about venomus or "Bannerman+Narrow escape" so only a little nerf. I would love to have in the list also Burning sands cause this card is overpowered and in the hand of an house that have all.

Anyway I love this policy far more than simple ban!!! Keep on rocking!

WOW thanks FFG this certainly opens up alot more deckbuilding space than it closes. Nice to see even a card unbanned :)

The restricted list won't change anything for Chtulhu. The problem of those cards wasn't their association ine a deck. It was THOSE cards. Alone.

Doppelganger is back to normal. Ok. Some questions, then.

what happens if I blank his text when it's in play and then I kill the orignial character?

Where is the doppel game text on the table?

If a living mummy dies and wound ll characters (nd the doppel) Does he go to the discard pile with the original card or does it return to my hand even if he's wounded (or destroyed pby a dimensional rift)?

I think the Restricted List it is an original and interesting solution.  We'll have to see how well it works in the upcoming regionals.

Boo! This messes up just about every one of my decks now!
