A look at Cosmic Conflict, the upcoming expansion for Cosmic Encounter
Cosmic Encounter | Published 19 January 2011

As the release of Cosmic Conflict approaches, it’s time for another look at one of the exciting new aliens that will be introduced. So far we have seen hazards and Filth, as well as the Saboteur and the Claw. Today we’ll sneak a peek at an interesting alien that grows more powerful by aiding his opponents.

Not all interstellar wars are won by completely alienating your competition. Often you can further your own interests by making common cause with those you would otherwise call your enemies. Some aliens have fully embraced this tactic by putting on a fake smile and reluctantly welcoming outsiders to earn their support. Other aliens have a natural affinity for strangers...awkwardly embracing foreign cultures.

The Xenophile is able to change the course of a battle when he has opposing colonies in his home system. This makes the Xenophile eager to please his opponents in order to make a later turn more powerful.

This particular ability can be a gamble, since letting too many other players set up camp in your home system is definitely not the best offense. However, since the Xenophile’s ability triggers off each foreign colony in your home system, it may just be a gamble that could pay out big time.

Keep your eyes to the stars and watch for more information on Cosmic Conflict, coming soon!

Cosmic Encounter is a classic board game that puts players in charge of the fate of an alien race. Three to five players each strive to be the first to conquer five enemy colonies and establish themselves as the dominant life form in the galaxy. With over 50 alien characters to choose from, no two games are ever the same.

Depends on what you consider a "typo".  This card has a grammar error (who instead of whom), breaks some capitalization and wording conventions used on the other alien powers, and is missing some graphical elements in the template artwork (compare the timing icon gizmo to any of your existing alien sheets: it looks "bald").

It is kind of sad that an otherwise perfect design is impacted by sloppy attention to detail.

However, this is a really solid alien power with one of the very best images we've seen yet. Sure to be an instant favorite.  Would have been a grand slam if somebody had invested the time to scrape off the barnacles so the outstanding design had an equally outstanding execution.

The description is really funny.  Shouldn't have used "cheerful" twice, though.  You guys get an editor, a real writer or someone who looks over this stuff to make it more pro.  I hate seeing little glitches like this in writing mar your otherwise perfect work.  At least there are no typos :)

Like a good neighbor, Xenophile's there.   As much as I like seeing Pacifist picked on, it's quite a good choice to have Hate feeling the love.

Seems like a decent power, but that is easily the best alien art yet.
