A new year--and a reluctant reopening of this journal. This time I am writing solely to relieve my mind, for it would be absurd to fancy that the case is not definitely closed.

After a few spoiler-free weeks and with the holidays safely behind us, it’s time to get the ball rolling again. The twilight beckons us... and how to celebrate that better than to look at a card that will join in the ranks of the Silver Twilight Lodge? This new factions' secret agenda slowly reveals some pieces of the puzzle. They thrive on chaos and destruction as their rituals get fueled by bloody sacrifices. But why do you want to do that? Well, the Silver Twilight can take a few minor, subtle effects and snowball them into earth-shattering avalanches. That's why!

Ready and willing

One subtle effect is to ready something. A character for instance. You take the meat of a card like Get On Yer Feet! (Core Set, F78) and then make sure it also adds success tokens to a card like Ritual of the Lance (Order of the Silver Twilight, F42) by having it on a character instead of on an event card. The result is a mini, one time use Ancient Guardian (Core Set, F126) that can hit the table very early in the game, to get an extra activation out of some characters or to dodge one of those aggressive exhaust effects, like the one on The Seventy Steps (In Memory of Day, F30.)

Being able to ready a character will even reduce the recovery time of an insane character by a full turn, cutting the recovery time in half and making that character immediately available the turn they restore. Errand Boy (The Twilight Beckons, F15) does that. And besides making a wonderful sacrifice, he also adds “Fast” to your team, in case there is a need to get an edge in the struggle icon war.

"You gotta start somewhere..."

While by himself the little man isn't that impressive, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised in how many ways he'll be able to interact with other Silver Twilight cards. Within the Cthulhu Mythos death is rarely the worst or most final of fates, since even death may die, and things come Back From the Dead (In Memory of Day, F35) more often than you initially suspect.

Another element worthy of noting is the subtype. Even this lowly Errand Boy has the “Lodge” subtype in his box. It is a common type for Silver Twilight characters to have, but that doesn't make it any less relevant. Much like “Spell” for Yog-Sothoth or “Criminal'' for the Syndicate, it's quite central to the faction, and there will be cards referencing it.

We've seen only a small fraction of what The Silver Twilight will have on offer against the larger context of the game. The lower end in the cost curve is where most factions keep their essence, though. This is where they set up the tone and pave the way for their overall strategy. A one-cost character like this shows us a lot, and Errand Boy hits a number of key notes for the Silver Twilight faction.

Based on the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft and his literary circle, Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game takes two players deep into the Cthulhu Mythos where investigators clash with the Ancient Ones and Elder Gods for the fate of the world. The Living Card Game format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Asylum Pack expansions to the core game.

He is already the 3rd 1 cost for the faction with the four sided silver razor blade icon (also one 0 cost exists).  Many 0-1 costs are good times for a faction with much to do around the sacrifice mechanic. Fast is a nice little kicker. Since Lodge Barkeep is really designed for a phase react EB does not really have a reliable in faction combo YET... Our little Errand Boy is one to watch for possible improved goodness as the ST Character card pool increases...

The relevance of this new faction has been questioned by some

Isn't that fitting considering the Silver Twilight is as a rule considered

to be merely a 'philanthropic gentleman's club' by those Arkham residents

who don't know any better. I can't wait to get a hold of the new faction cards

to put them to the true test. I am confident that over time the Silver Twilight will

become very relevant.
