Announcing Death Angel, a Space Hulk card game coming this summer
Death Angel | Published 14 May 2010

Gather your brother Space Marines and meet the alien threat!

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce Space Hulk: Death Angel - The Card Game! Set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Death Angel is a cooperative card game for 1-6 players. Taking on the roles of Blood Angel Space Marines, you and your allies must enter an infested Space Hulk and terminate the Genestealer infestation.

Created by Corey Konieczka, Space Hulk: Death Angel - The Card Game combines strategy, teamwork, and grim combat into a suspenseful and fast-paced card game.

Players choose from six different combat teams, each consisting of two Space Marines with different abilities. Each player receives three Action cards for each of his combat teams. After all of the Space Marines have fallen into formation, prepare for the first wave of Genestealers!

Gameplay is quick and easy-to-learn. Each game is played over a series of rounds, broken up into phases. During the Choose Actions Phase, each player must secretly determine which of the following Action cards they wish to play on their Space Marines: Support, Attack, or Move + Activate. You can't pick the same Action card next round, so choose wisely!

Action resolution keeps all players involved while the overwhelming odds inspire them to work together to survive. The Action Resolution Phase consists of each player revealing and carrying out their chosen Action. The lowest number card goes first, which means Attacks are resolved after Supports. Support tokens enable Space Marines to reroll, so make sure to cover your fellow Blood Angels!

The Genestealer Attack Phase happens after all the Actions have been resolved, so hopefully you thinned out the swarms since you have to roll higher than the number of Genestealers in the swarm to successfully defend. Finally, an Event card is drawn to spawn more alien adversaries. Once all the Genestealers have emerged from the darkness, its time to move forward, drawing a new location card. And then it's back into the fight!

Head over to our description page to learn more, and keep watching for previews over the coming weeks. This summer, it's man versus alien in the grim darkness of space. The mission seems impossible. Survival seems unlikely. Failure is not an option.

Little, nice card game. We will see when it comes out if I will buy it or not but the idea is cool.

Looks great. I'll probably pick it up upon release. I love cardgames like this and Anima. Mature with much content but not a fortune in price.

Another reason for 40K CCG demise was some sort of reissuing new additions of the game, whose new editions were not compatible with the old ones... Not entirely sure if that was STGs fault, or a mandate from somewhere else (GW?).

Sabertooth games had a great 40k card game. Sadly it died out because of costs and how impossible it was to get some of the rares in some areas. It was a fun game because the cards had 3 different uses, in hand effect, field effect and die roll number on the card. so building you deck was as important and how you played it. If FFG picked it up and turned it into a LCG I'm sure it would become a great game again.

This is friggan awesome!!!  It even has solo gameplay!!!  The last ccg that I know of was Middle-Earth CCG and I still play it to this day!!!

Randomized games everytime!!!

At first I was meh, but when I got to the part about randomized games and solo I know must buy this!!!

I'm more excited about it than the Space Hulk 3rd edition sitting on my shelf!

You never know, this may mean FFG eventually published a version of Space Hulk as well!

@ Hellfury: Then complain to GW about not getting a new expansion to the Space Hulk boardgame, since they're the ones that produced it, and have control over whether or not it gets an expansion, not FFG.

Whose complaining? I was responding to Baenre's post.

Hellfury, you do realize FFG had nothing to do with the Space Hulk re-release, right?

Wittdooley, you do realize how many space hulk players see this and gasp with excitement just to realize its a card game and not an expansion, right? Its the initial reaction and following let down I am talking about, not how good or bad the card game is.

And since everyone is blowing what I say way out of proportion, I will respond in kind. Yes, Captain Obvious, I think unborn children realize that everything that has to do with space hulk is a purely GW construct. Until now.

You mean Deathwing and Genestealer that already exist for Space Hulk Hellfury?

Sure, if you live in 1990 and are easily able to buy them. *rolleyes*

What I mean is actual expansions for a game that isnt as nearly out of print as GW or EBAY would like you to think.  I am sure this game is cool, but when you see something for space hulk people are immediately thinking of an expansion to the actual game, not a card game that somehow emulates the original through card based mechanics and such.

WTF?!?!  Give us a break FFG!  You can't have all of our hard earned cash!  It's not fair.  Other companies need to take our money too.  Can you just give us a break!?!?  I mean, c'mon!  I just can't afford everything you make.  I just...can't.  I want to...

Fine.  Whatever.  I give up.  Can you just take my credit card number and send me a copy of everything you release...
