Announcing Fury of the Bear, an expansion for Tide of Iron
Tide Of Iron | Published 15 April 2010

It is June 22, 1941...

Operation Barbarossa has commenced and the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union has begun. Employing over 4.5 million troops, Germany’s invasion spreads across an 1800 mile front. Pressing forward, the Germans seek to claim territory up to the Arkhangelsk-Astrakhan line. These two Soviet cities mark the proposed eastern border of the Reich. The Soviets, however, have no intention of going quietly.

Despite Soviet defenses, Germany continued to gain momentum from successes in other areas. Operation Typhoon began, targeting Moscow. But once again, Soviet defense forces pushed Germany back. A counter-attack would soon follow...

Fantasy Flight Games is pleased to announce Fury of the Bear, an upcoming expansion to Tide of Iron! Take command of the Germans or the Soviet forces as war on the Eastern Front begins.

The Fury of the Bear expansion for Tide of Iron builds on an already epic game experience by adding the forces of an entirely new nation, as well as new vehicles, winter terrain, scenarios, and more! Featuring nearly 100 plastic figures for the Soviet army, plus new German figures, tokens, cards, and 9 new Eastern Front map boards, the Fury of the Bear expansion will let you experience Tide of Iron in an entirely new way.

In addition, Fury of the Bear will also offer exciting new mechanics, such as a combined strategy deck, a system of counter intelligence known as subversion, and all-new specialization types! Keep checking back! In the coming weeks we will explore these aspects of Fury of the Bear with a series of previews leading up to its release.

With all these additions, not to mention the most tanks of any Tide of Iron release, Fury of the Bear will expand your options and challenge your strategies!

This summer, the invasion begins. Are you prepared to face the fury of a nation?

Tide of Iron is an epic board game of tactical WWII combat that grants 2-4 players control of either American or German military forces, pitting squads of fighting men and vehicles against each other in one of several scenarios.

Now that the Eastern European front has The Fury of the Bear, when may we look for a Tide of Iron Pacific game?

FFG, you cannot quit on TOI until you release the FOTB expansion. I promise to buy it, either at the game store or order it directly if necessary. If it is still in development, then please consider the comments made already about the T34 model turret not looking right. Maybe a different model should be used for casting, like the 43 version with the more hexagonal turret and gas drums on the side.

Other pieces I would like to see are: 122mm artillery, 76.2 AT gun, and a Katusha rocket truck. And armored cars, both Russian, and the German Puma would be great. I like that the 88 flak gun was added, but would also like to see the Whirlbelwind quad flak tank. The upgunned T34/85 would be nice too.

I like all the infantry figures in all the expansions so far, except that I wish the officer figures were a little more distintive. Please show the Fury of the Bear infantry figures as soon as possible. Maybe a jeep and an officer combo base?

I'm very intested in getting this expansion.  My question to the powers that be, why no information or interaction on the forums???! After scouring the forms, and net, very little information has been provided in the way of updates to any shipping dates. If FFG was serious about it, it would seem it would do at least a little in the way of getting on the TOI forms and share some information.  So, to FFG staff:  Why do you not actively participate in the forums and at least generate 'some' interest by offering tantilizing tid-bits of information, hints, inuendo's, heck, ANYTHING?  So, while very interested, I'm also very dissapointed.

It's been awhile since I've heard news but I'm still patient. Witness my patience (I've put money aside, I count it every day in honor of my patience!!), but c'mon already. I remember when Normandy came out. It was just at the shop one day, I felt like there was no warning. Maybe an article from Dana Lombardy.. a little teaser...

We go back to school next week.  Summer 2010 is almost over.  Fury of the Bear is not even on the "boat" yet.

Please, give us some update.  Pictures of the maps, tanks, soldiers, something to keep us going, Please>

When is there going to be more news about this game?

I want to see hills that provide cover. I dont like how the only way to be on a hill and not be vulnerable is to have an entrenchment.

Im excited for some intense city fights and great tank battles.

Glad to see the Russian expansion and looking forward to the new combined strategy deck. Got to find where my game shop moved to so I can get this expansion. The graphics quality of this game is outstanding. Its a great game to leave set up and play at your leisure.  With painted figures it becomes quite a nice layout and a good miniatures display.

Now you guys (FFG) have the chance to introduce TRENCHES javascript:void(0);/*1276848017405*/ To have my troops "standing" on a hill when defending seems really stupied... in real wars, if time is available, trenches is dig and the enemy then awaited.

funny with a game expansion where you either play the bad guys or the badder guys.  (won`t go into any discussion here). Anyway Eastern front is my favourite setting in all war games. The intensity and size of those battles cannot be compared to anything on the western front or pacific.  Looking forward for this expansion. urrah!

Im really curious about what german vehicles there will be. It seems like they already have all of their major tanks. I think the germans number at 6 tanks now if i counted right. Maybe they will be some of the earlier tanks since operation barbarossa started relatively early in the war still.
