Another look at the Assault on Ulthuan expansion for Warhammer: Invasion
Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game | Published 23 March 2010

Welcome to another “card of the week” spotlight for Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game! Last week, we received some exciting news about the future of Warhammer: Invasion; James Hata shared his insights into the coming year as he gave us a glimpse of The Enemy Cycle, and we saw a closer look at its first Battle Pack, The Burning of Derricksburg.

But as we consider long-term plans, let’s not lose sight of what’s just ahead. Assault on Ulthuan, the first deluxe expansion for Warhammer: Invasion, is just a few short weeks away!

Since our announcement of Assault On Ulthuan back in December, we’ve seen how it will make both the High Elves and the Dark Elves forces to be reckoned with (Check out our previous Assault on Ulthuan spotlights Blood Has Been Shed, Cleansing Flames, and Invoke Their Wrath to see the cards we’ve spoiled so far). It’s almost enough to make die-hard players of other factions feel a bit left out. After all, what’s in that box for them?

Plenty! Today we’ll take a look at two support cards (that’s right, this is a two-for-one card spotlight!) coming your way in Assault on Ulthuan, neither of which belong to Elf factions. First, Battle Standard offers even more of what the Empire so much fun to play: unit control and mobility. In our very first Warhammer: Invasion card of the week spotlight, Nate French wrote about the awesome firepower available when Pistoliers combine with Shrine to Taal. With Battle Standard, you can achieve a similar effect with any unit! Of course, the attached unit can only move during your battlefield phase, but that ought to be enough to utilize your Shrine to Taal, or to bolster your front lines with The Greatswords.

If you’re an Orc player, and particularly if you prefer to rush in with low cost, low health units like the Spider Riders, then you know the risks associated with such a weak front line: hit-point-reducing effects like Horrific Mutation (or a score of other low-point damage effects) can quickly end your assault. Now, you have an answer. The Scrap Heap allows all units in the same zone an additional hit point! Slap it down in your battlefield zone, and give your Spider Riders and Crooked Teef Goblins (for example) twice their current longevity!

Join us next time for another spotlight on Warhammer: Invasion!

In Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game, designed by Eric M. Lang, two players develop their kingdoms and lay waste to their foes. Each side is comprised of either the forces of Order or the forces of Destruction as they seek to extend their empire to include the entire Old World. The Living Card Game™ format allows players to customize their gaming experience with monthly Battle Pack expansions to the core game.

Where does it say that this is "shipping"? Every place on this site that I see, says that it's either "not yet released" or expected "Q1 2010".

The date that Godshand is quoting is April the 24th. Since Maelstrom Games seems to be a UK based FLGS, April 24th may be an oversea release schedule.

Considering that FFG's own web-page shows it shipping to stores, it should be available by next Wed/Thursday here in the states at most FLGS.  I'm not sure why it wouldn't release until the 10th, that wouldn't make sense based on past releases.

In the Maelstorm Site appears the date of 24.4.10 of becoming available to buy :(

I want new cards ;_;

Sidenote - The Orcs are already pretty over-powered (or nearly so) - they really don't need any more boosting at this point.  Yikes.

WTF?  Short weeks away?  It shows as shipping on your UPCOMING web-page, FFG?  That would mean NEXT week, not a few weeks.  LAME!   ::: sobbing :::
