Battle Foam Tray for the Core Set Box

Looks great.  Very pleased Battle Foam has produced this, now I just need to bite the bullet and pay the crazy shipping for it.

I ordered 2 of thoes battle foam holders… at $15 each its a steal, considering my SDE one cost $45.  Also I contacted battlefoam and they said since the foam for the core set was selling so well that they would PROBABLY be making foam for the expansions.  One can only hope

Orginal question from e mail:

I just purchased the Fantisy Flight X-Wing game and I see you do have foam available for that.  Do you have plans for foam for when the new expansions become available?  If you are, what are the dimensions for the new foam going to be?   Will it fit in the current box ( I have 2 of the core boxes) or Is this something that I need to consider getting the Pack system, or just a couple of custom trays to fit into existing bags?

answer:

"As for the X-Wing kit, we will see how many requests we get once the expansions are released. We will most likely make them since the kit we have now is doing pretty well."

For the battlefoam,  I want to be able customize the ship layout, then I would buy it.

I contacted them two weeks ago asking if they would up date their custom tray maker on their site. At the time, they stated they where only going to offer the one seen above. Eventually depending on sales they would add X-wing options to their custom tray maker. Or you could trace your ships and submit it to be made.

I think they will change their tune when Wave 2 gets released.

Thats so stupid.  Why would you ask someone to trace a model that you ALREADY have in your inventory.  One would think that if the company traced something already you would keep the stock model trace outs available for everyone to use.

I've got a small Plano tacklebox I picked up today at Walmart. It's got two opening slots at the top for tokens used in play, a huge open area in the top for books / move templates / range things / asteroids, two more compartments on top that hold bases and pegs, and random other tokens, respectively. It's also got two fairly good sized spots on the sides that open up, those I will use to house falcons and slaves, once I get them, and then the bottom has 3 plastic trays that will each hold 12 ships, a deck of damage cards, a deck of pilot cards, and the base mounts and dials for the ships of that trays faction. overall it works pretty well - the only thing that doesn't yet have a place is the deck of attachments, which I will find a place for in there somehow.

So I bought another Plano 5231 for $6.65 and some heavy duty Velcro for $3.  I used the Velcro to stick the the two cases together.  Works great!  Exactly the same as the double sided blue Plano Lockjaw, but without the handle…and cheaper.

I have the BattleFoam set before me now.

The TIE Fighter cutouts are good for one figure per, but you can fit two or three ships in each of the others.

I just found the blue double sided plano at gander mountain- didn't find any of the reds locally (i don't like waiting for shipping…) it works awesome, and plenty of room for growth!

(and used the guys idea for next day air pouches for the rule book, works great!)

i highly recomment this set up to anyone… with 1 core, and 2 xwing, 2 tie, 1 ywing, and 1 advance expansion i sitll have room for my next purchase of 1 more core and 2 more ywings/2 more advanced in the one side… once wave two is released i'll use one side for imps and the other for rebs and the tops will hold the tokens dedicated to each side, with plenty of room for another 2 or 3 waves of ships!

once i pick up my 2nd core today i'll be cutting up on of the boxes and attaching some of the logos/images to it… i'll post a pick of my set up then

I just a shipping estimate from the battlefoam site and noticed no change in the price. If they are charging more than $10 in shipping I think that kills the price point for most gamers. Specially when I did a search for 1 1/4 inch foam. You can by a 54' by 72' sheet for $20-25 depending on the depth you may want. That would allow you to cut out 16, 11 by 15 sections for trays.

For storage and transport, I'm using a Plano 3730 case. Easily holds the contents of 2 core box sets and 7 expansions. (Could hold another TIE fighter, too.)

All of the minis are on bases and standing on 2 pegs. The TIE fighters are set on their sides, and will stack nicely that way. The other ships are all standing up. I've put small baggies of counters in between the ships to prevent them from moving around too much in transit, but there's plenty of room for those baggies in other compartments, if I wanted.

The wells on this case are too deep for holding just a few tokens, so it's not a great case to play out of. But it's fine for carrying the stuff around.

This is what I'm interested in. So far I've been using my two core boxes for storage, but I have to use pliers to get the pegs off my ships for storage. They're so tight! I'd much rather keep them on the bases for storage, so I'm keeping my eyes open for storage solutions that encourage that. But the above pics look scary to me. I can imagine the ships shuffling around and getting scratched or chipped. Is that a problem for you?

Cant remember the plano model number but found it at Walmart and it fits my needs perfectly. I did have to cut the wall where the cards are but except for the odd focus token going astray, it keeps everything nice and neat. Just need to get that air pouch for my rules.

yeah, Romeo has been getting a little "proud" of his product.  With the almost 50% price hike on all his foam products and all games that have signed up with him you would think he would at least do a flat rate shipping.

How effective are these boxes for transporting ships.   I have already had an X-Wing that one of the lasers fell off the wing.  I chalked it up to just a defective model and elmers fixed it so I am not worried.  I just know that those lasers in perticular are quite dainty.   Also .. one thing I have been doing is I just put the ships on one of the pegs instead of two of them… I guess I feel like at some point in time the peg is going to break.  I would of liked to see a little better construction on some of the materals. or the option to buy upgraded / replacement parts.
