Anyone have suggestions on where I might buy suitable minis for this system?  I have the nice ship minis from FFG's new "Star Wars: X-Wing" miniature game, and I have some larger minis of well-known characters like Obi-Wan and Vader.  But what I'd really like is a large collection of small figures, some of whom might match, say, the pre-made characters in this Beginners Box.  Any thoughts?

Try Ebay for the WotC Star Wars Miniatures. If you get really lucky you might find the old Ral Partha figures that were made from metal rather than plastic.

Yep, the WOTC range had around 800 different miniatures.  You can usually pick up the Commons & Uncommons quite cheaply and you'll often find someone on eBay selling figures as a Lot.

While eBay is good for big lots of Commons and Uncommons, you might run into some issues if you want specific figures (for whatever reason).  There's quite a few online retailers that sell individual minis, with the Commons and Uncommons being pretty cheap, but the Rare and Very Rare (which include many of the specifically named characters) can get pricey, with Boba Fett and a few versions of Vader being the major culprits the last time I looked, which admittedly was several years ago.

For individual figure sales, I've had nothing but a very positive experience with CoolStuffInc for individual figures, be they small orders of only a couple figs or even large orders.

They also used to do full lots of the Common and Uncommon figures for each set, so they might still have some of those left from the last few expansions.

Even if they do, the plastic is so soft, that warming it up, then straightening it to shape and cooling it back down works. I can leave these in my car and be able to put them easily into shape in just a few minutes of warming up.

Here's another option, though they're both less comprehensive and tougher to find than the WotC minis:

When I finally got my starter map back from the laminator, I could confirm what I believed: the map of Krayt's Fang is almost SPOT-ON with the old line of Galoob Micro Machines figure packs. Hopefully this eBay linkie will work:

The figure packs each contain nine figures in four poses, and are about 20mm ( that also translates to roughly H0/00 or 1/87th scale). There are also figures that came in some of the vehicle packs and playsets. The line was not complete by any means, but still contained (among others) sets of Stormtroopers, Scout troopers, Imperial navy troopers, Imperial officers, Imperial pilots, Rebel Fleet troopers, Rebel commandos, Rebel pilots, Echo Base troopers, Sandpeople, Jawas, Ewoks, Bounty Hunters, various Hero characters, various Villain characters, Battle Droids, Gungans, and all manner of scattered uniques. You could even get ahold of EU characters like Thrawn & Guri. There's really quite enough for any Edge of the Empire needs, and it's a good size for big Star Wars play areas.

Thing is, I have NO IDEA if any other maps will be made in that same scale (or made at all, since EotE claims to be not mini-based). Sooo… you could give it a stab, or not. Myself, I think they're great little guys.

I'm just going to throw out the idea of using Lego mini figures. They've been making Star Wars (and other sci-fi themed) figures for years and they're much more customizable than your basic Star Wars minis.

Well, I found a grab-bag of 50 Star Wars minis on Amazon, and I love them!  I got this assortment:

A few of them are bent at the base, but the previous poster is right -- warming the figure, then bending it, seems to work fine.  Apart from that, I love these little things.  I got a few Stormtroopers, a Wookiee, a smuggler, a bunch of Force users, assorted bad guys, and a nice big AT-ST!

Now all I need is some maps for the "Long Arm of the Hutt," the next part of the beginner series published by FFG.  I'll post about that separately.

I got that grab bag from Amazon as well. I only got three force users, which is fine for my purposes, and got quite a few clone and storm troopers (close enough to proxie). It also came with a good number of battle droids and random humans that will be great for NPCs. The crazy thing in the box for me was a huge Hailfire droid (one of the two-wheeled rocket firing tanks from Ep. 2) I'm not sure what I'll use it for, but it's sitting there daring me to pit players against it.

I've used trollandtoad.com to supplement that with individually picked minis to fill in some gaps for specific NPCs and PCs.

Cool.  I actually was so taken with the grab-bag that I ordered another one!  Don't tell my wife.

That is a great idea, using the WotC Star Wars Minis for use in this game.  Good thing I held on to my collection.  You never know when you're gonna need them.  I know someone who got rid (sold) his collection.  Recycling is always the best action.
