Once an Investigator arrives at the scene of the crime and places his hero marker on the location and his hero maker is stil there after everyone has taken their turns, he will be the starting Investigator for the next day (instead of moving the first player marker clockwise around the board to the next player).

Is this permanent? Will this Investigator always be the starting player until another Investigator goes to the scene of the crime? Or does this only apply to the very next turn/day?

If no other player visits the scene of the crime, then the first player will never change.  Note, there is an official variant that let's you place any players' marker at the scene of the crime when you visit that spot.  Basically it allows you to choose who the first player in the turn will be.

Tsugo is right. First Player Marker does not move clockwise around the board. That's why you have to use jump on the case on the scene of the crime to change it.

This is what happens. If by the end of the day his marker is is still there, give the first player marker to him. He takes his first player marker. He becomes the first player the next turn, and turns after, possibly until the end of the game, unless someone else jumps on the case on the scene of the crime.

Since there is only disadvantages connected to first player (mostly plot) and few advantages (can get do event first) the "official" variant should be errata instead of variant ...

If basic game, we played about 5 games without this variant and "jump on the case" was never used (usually reporter is also in location of the crime).

With this new rule, in almost every day, first player changed at least once :)
