How much book keeping is required in this game? TCGs / LCGs / customizable card games that require multiple beads and dice and counters kind of irk me lately... this heavy in that kind of jazz?

There are exactly 3 counters - the three dragons that come with the game.
If you decide you want to play to 5 crystals instead of single games you might also want to invest into 8 counters (or just use a piece of paper) for the intermediate standings.
There is no need for additional beads/dice/... as there are no livepoints, attacks that gain or loose strenght,...
