I found the website where you can play online. Should I jump right in or shy away from this until I play a few real games? Also, are there generally people that play online or do you have to know fellow players.
Finally, I'm considering painting the minis. Are there are any good painting guides for the minis?

You may be able to find someone who's willing to play on-line with a newbie. You can always ask.
Several painting guides have been published on BGG:

Of course, you could always wait for the Collectors Edition (hopefully later this year).

I have not found it. Where is the online version?
Or do you speak of the Java Client? I got that already.
I would very much like to play online, without the hassle of tracking down players on ancient forums.
Although, this forum seems pretty current. Perhaps my search is over?
I don't imagine there are any other ways of playing online other than the Java client. I have yet to see a forum where players look for games, however.
