Well, I heard that some people out there really liked the wooden miniatures...
But the case is that the new miniatures will be made of PLASTIC... And you have to agree with me that they're kinda lame. Troops are represented by a kinda os meeple and ships are a weird looking piece...C'mon FFG! You guys are know for superb components... Give us more detailed gaming pieces. I'm not talking about minis a la Westeros. I'm talking of pieces like those that come with the A Games of Thrones: Card Games.

I totally agree. I really hope they have time to change the miniature manufacturing. Changing from wooden pieces was bad enough...
Maybe they can at least redesign the boring plastic ones to have a little more class? I guess we'll wait and see. I can't even find the full page I once viewed of this game to look at the pieces again, so dizzyingly differently directed as the links on this site always are.
Play games. Don't be a gamer.
I agree. I found the 1st edition wooden pieces somewhat classic and fun, too. I didn't realize that they will now be plastic. I think it's a loss. Writing about it in this forum won't help a bit, though. Email customer support or email the developers and complain, maybe that will help.
There are guys out there who feel like changing the perfectly balanced and working rules of a game for the heck of it, despite the considerable input from game designers that made a specific decision for a good reason.

While I would rather have had wooden pieces - at this point it is probably too late change back. Perhaps if the game sells well we can end up with "Premium" pieces sold seperately.

God...

One can always attempt to use some of the miniatures from BattleLore: Battles of Westeros. Unfortunately, there are very limited factions in that game.

Personally, I prefer the existing pieces...well, maybe not the plastic pieces, but the wooden ones, certainly. They seem like the kind of tokens a lord in Westeros might use for strategy sessions. So if anything, I would have the old wooden pieces return, and all plastic pieces left for games represented worlds in which plastic has been invented, like Star Wars. :)
"Truth has power. And if we all gravitate toward similar ideas, maybe we do so because those ideas are true…written deep within us. And when we hear the truth, even if we don't understand it, we feel that truth resonate within us…vibrating with our unconscious wisdom. Perhaps the truth is not learned by us, but rather, the truth is re-called…re-membered…re-cognized…as that which is already inside us." Peter Solomon, The Lost Symbol
I haven't played thhe first edition since i can't find it in anyy shop in my country, but on my next visit to the States I'll get a new edition. Hearing about the miniatures is a bit disappointing and I hope FFG will hear out our request since everyone here is their big fan for the great games they make. Let's hope they remember that we're the ones buying them :)

guys, stop being naive please. do you even know FFG?
plastic is what you will get. wooden ones? maybe with 9.99usd price tag per bag

It looks like the plastic is the pretty marbleized stuff they use for their plastic token sets, so no your lords do not play with mear wood tokens they use only the finest marble pieces!
Don't play with the grey, have me paint your board games!

Marbelized or no, plastic is lame. But as I said: complaining about it in this forum will do less than nothing. I doubt anyone at FFG even reads this forum, let alone someone who has the power to change this if they wanted to.
Unfortunately I don't have the first edition or any of the expansions; so taking the old pieces is no possibility for me. Sad, but I guess I will have to make due with what FFG supply. Maybe I will come to love it in the months and years to come.

On the plus side they tweaked the cavalry figures - no longer will I have to cringe my teeth while my men are butchered by cravens who ride the mounts on their foreheads.
Shh. My common sense is tingling.
Bah, I was hoping that they replaced all those shapes with little figures. I love little figures.

Yeah, I agree! Also, if you place them "face down" they look like headless pigs. :D
