The movie was bad enough... so why base a game off of it?

because every mythological movie needs a game to follow it to the grave

The movie isn't so hot, agreed, but that's OK in this case because the game itself is an abstract that just happens to use the movie theme.  It could have been My Little Pony the Game and played the same.  Luckily, it's backed up by the engine for Reiner Knizia's Kingdoms, and is actually a really fun game to play.
