Promo Figures?
Published on 09 January 2009 - 19:48:43

Hello,

Hey I remember hearing that there may be promo figures for this game given away at some Cons or something, but I can't find any info anywhere about them. Do any Runebound promos exist? Also, there was that Descent contest a while ago to create a character and I think they gave some promos away that someone said could be used for Descent or Runebound. Does anyone have any info on these hypothetical promos?

I don't think there are any promo figures for Runebound. I doubt anything given away for the Descent contest would come with rules for use with Runebound, and I also seriously doubt the costs to produce a figure for such a limited use as a prize for a small contest would make it worth it make one for that reason.

If my interest in this game ever recovers from its new sci-fi direction (probably to distance it from Talisman), it would quickly be slain again by the introduction of promo figures.

Ignorance is futile

Resistance is bliss

Agreed. I heard some people talking about it, and was going nuts trying to find out if there were characters that I potentially would never get to own. I do hate that, but I wanted to see if they were even real or not. I definitely hope none exist.

There IS a promo figure for Runebound I believe.  At Gencon (I believe it was gencon), there was a promo figure for both Descent and Runebound, with the promise that the character card would be sent later.  Personally, I really detest this kind of marketing...I got into board games because you get everything for one price.  I didn't get into it to chase promo figures.

The promo fig you are talking about was for picking up the Tomb of Ice expansion.  When i sent in my redemption form i did get back a card for both descent and runebound.  Hopefully they will put this figure in the boxes for the new runebound expansion.

If you guys want the stats ill see if I can find the card.

In Germany there was a promo for Descent and Runebound on the Game-Fair in Essen. It was the character "Nara der Reisszahn" (sorry i only know the German name). It came with a card for runebound and descent. You got it, if you buy a game from Heidelberger Spieleverlag (the German distibutor of ffg). You can buy it on ebay for a price of about 15 Euro.

Sorry for the bad language.

I think that would translate as something like "Nara the Fang."  There's a thread at Heidelberger Spielverlag where they're complaining that the character is overpowered, with the ability to cause up to 2 life before combat, and 2 life damage in melee.  But I didn't find the card's text or stats anywhere.

Sounds interesting though. Hey amrowe1999, is there anyway you (or maybe anyone else who has this) could scan the card and post a pic of it? Nara the Fang sounds like an awesome name and it'd be sweet to see a pic of it, even if we still can't get the miniature.

Ok, I did find this pic in an ended german ebay auction using Dakturak and Lindsey's info they posted:

I can't read the text, but can make out some of the stats.

It looks cool as heck, and makes me even more jealous that it is apparently so hard to get.

amrowe1999, is this the same promo you have? I wonder if there is more now.

Another update. Ok, I have found the full stats according to a messageboard:

Nara the Fang

Wounds: 4, Fatigue: 4

Before Combat: You may take 2 Fatigue to make a melee attack.

Skills: Jump +2, Climb +2

"I leap, I attack, I stab, I kill!"

Mind/Ranged: 2/1, Body/Melee 4/2, Spirit/Magic 0/1

~~

Also, here is another, better look at the actual card:

And then, here is a picture of the English Descent card for a bigger clearer look at the picture:

So, very cool. Maybe now someone with good photoshop skills can put together a homeade Runebound character card for us all using the bigger pic on the descent card and the stats listed or something. Props to anyone who does.

I recall reading somewhere that even though this fig was released early, as a promo, it will be released again and made available to everyone, with no shortage...

I eagerly await this, as the Descent toon looks great.  I couldn't see enough on the RB card to know if she's worth it there...but in Descent, me likey...

Thanks for finding and posting the information!

I can see why they were complaining the card might be too strong.  4 damage in the first round is really good, even if you have to pay 2 fatigue for the chance at it.

Her RB card is really good too. 4 damage in the first round is outstanding.
